Congressman begs Electoral College voters to block Trump

Source: NY Post

A Democratic lawmaker is desperately lobbying the Electoral College to shun Donald Trump, and vote for Hillary Clinton — even though he conceded Monday that the Republican won the election “fair and square.”

...

“We’re 5 wks from Inauguration & the President Elect is completely unhinged. The electoral college must do what it was designed for,” Himes wrote Sunday night on Twitter in response to Trump’s gripe that NBC “Nightly News” is “biased, inaccurate and bad, point after point.”

In an interview Monday on CNN’s “New Day,” Himes said that Trump’s refusal to say that the Russians hacked Democrats during the election was what prompted his plea to the Electoral College.

“What finally pushed me over the edge was when the president-elect of the United States criticized the CIA and the intelligence community. Can you imagine what the leaders in Beijing and Moscow and Tehran are thinking as they watch the next president of the United States delegitimize and criticize his own intelligence community and stand up for the defense of Russia, one of our prime adversaries,” said Himes.

I'm sure they'll think that a carefully crafted speech against electing a Russian-controlled demagogue is more appealing than someone screaming MAGA for 20 minutes

An insignificant Democratic lawmaker, that nobody has heard of, is asking the Republican electors, to block their own party nominee.

I'm sure he'll be taken seriously.

It's laughable that on one hand, we can see the repubs for what they are.....yet still hold out hope and prayers that they are reasonable, and willing to compromise somehow. LOL!

If there was Russian involvement in the elections, and it helped the repubs take over all branches of the government, why in the world would they resist or attempt to undo that?

It's like asking a team to protest an umpire's lame call that went in their favor.

i agree that the electoral college won't alter the election -- that's squarely in the realm of fantasy from my point of view -- but no need to malign my congresscritter! he's actually pretty good, from everything i've seen.

But when it comes down to it isn't all of it just a kind of crap shoot at this point? I mean, either we're pissing in the wind or screaming in the wilderness. Where's the harm?

Maybe there's going to be a "Christmas Miracle" Tiny Tim style.... a gal can dream.

Though it may not appear so, I am trying to find a light in the darkness. I refuse to ruminate "We're so f*cked" for however long it takes for the fix to come in. And there's still that free speech thingy in place, at least for the moment.

I can see your point, however and the fact that we have "this dude" making the case is disheartening.

I find it very counterproductive to suggest that electors switch votes to Clinton. This feeds into Trump's narrative that this is all partisan driven. We have accepted that Clinton lost, we are trying to not lose our country too. Electors are free to cast their vote for any republican. For all I know, it could be Pence because he was part of the ticket but with no ties to Russia or conflict of interest.

And yes, the situation is so dire right now that even Pence would be a better outcome because he can be controlled and we can survive him. He is much more predictable.

Paul Ryan.

In case of the Pres and VP being out, it defaults to the Speaker of the House anyway.

The case against Trump is growing stronger post election and not casting a vote for Trump based on the ties to adversary foreign government is a valid reason. The public is getting educated on how EC intended to work and almost everyone is getting aware now.

There won't be a civil war because no one will get 270 and the matter goes to congress so it won'tbe as rough as it seems. The only scenario of definite Civil War is if Clinton gets selected which I beleive is counterproductive to even suggest.

Lots of people voted for Pence and not Trump so his selection could help to calm down more than half of Trump voters.

By the way, the electors will be casting separate votes for both President snd Vice-President

for Congress to pick him.

Second, if they picked Pence, they'd probably have to pick Kaine to be VP because, in all likelihood, there wouldn't be another person for them to pick.

Third, Pence will make it clear to the members of the House that they shouldn't pick him, they should pick Trump. And that's what they'll do.

and that is OK?? Everyday i wake up and feel like we are in some parallel universe with a great number of crazed Americans who've elected an insane demagogue to lead the country. Protecting the nation is a president's first duty as commander in chief. trump is not fit to run anything, much less be the leader of the free world. The orange bastardly bigot must be prevented from taking office in January, and if the EC is faced down in this lunacy and votes him in, then Democrats everywhere need to lead the charge to impeach him before trump and his ilk destroy our democracy. As Michael Bloomberg has some ominously said at the DNC convention, God help us!!
