RNC keeps close tabs on Electoral College vote

Source: Politico

The Republican National Committee is overseeing an expansive whip operation designed to lock down Donald Trump’s Electoral College majority and ensure that the 306 Republican electors cast their votes for the president-elect.

Two RNC sources familiar with the effort said the committee — with the assistance of state Republican parties and the Trump campaign — have been in touch with most of the GOP electors multiple times, and has concluded that only one is a risk to cast a vote against Trump on Dec. 19, when the Electoral College meets.

The RNC’s elector head count, the sources emphasized, is standard practice in presidential election years. But this year it also serves as an early-warning system for potentially wayward GOP electors amid an intense push by Democratic electors to convince 37 of their Republican counterparts to jump ship. The Democrats are hoping that dozens of GOP electors — many of whom were picked at local conventions and party meetings dominated by Trump’s opponents — are already primed to resist Trump.

“The state Republican parties in the states that went for Trump are heavily invested in this process,” said one of the RNC sources. “It’s a matter of personal pride for a state party chairman and a state party to ensure that all the electors that their people elected vote, and vote in the manner in which they’re supposed to.”

At least that was a "norm" that the men who wrote that section of the constitution believed. I bet there are no laws against blatantly bribing the electors either m

There is no reason that an antiquated process designed in a time when it was impossible to campaign nation-wide (basically the east coast then) should still be in play.

It was so less-populated southern states could gain more electoral cloat using the 3/5ths rule without changing the number of people in their electorate (since blacks couldn't vote). It also prevented the northern states from gaining anything by allowing women to vote, deterring suffrage because it could only effect state elections and their politicians didn't want to be ousted by women voters.

The Republicans are going to shove Comrade Casino (R) through the sphincter of the Electoral College, and up America's keister.

Their only defense for the electoral college is "lol 4 million votes in hippy lib California" (despite Trump only winning the college by 85k)

It also seems they won't believe the Russian interference unless they see Trump handing Putin a big sack with a $ printed on it, and Putin handing Trump a folder labelled "EMAILS" on live television.

No doubt they will send the same swarms of shark lawyers out as they did to the recount efforts in a show of force and intimidation. These guys overwhelmed all efforts to get any progress out of the recounts. They challenged everything and frustrated the under-represented volunteers who were sincere in their efforts.

It is not like they will ever vote for Hillary, and even if it is shown proof positive that Russia was behind the hacks and Wikileaks, how would that ever make them not vote for Trump? The only thing that would work is if there is proof that Trump was in collusion with Russia to orchestrate the hacks, and proof like that would get him impeached anyway, so there is that.
