President Trump expected to launch commission on 'election integrity'

Source: ABC News

President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order today establishing a commission to review alleged voter fraud and voter suppression in the American election system, multiple senior administration officials tell ABC News.

The officials say Vice President Mike Pence and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach will be announced as Chair and Vice Chair of the ‘Presidential Commission on Election Integrity’ in a press release today. It's not clear whether the White House will allow coverage of the order signing.

The commission, which will include Republicans and Democrats, will be tasked with studying "vulnerabilities" in U.S. voting systems and potential effects on "improper voting, fraudulent voter registrations and fraudulent voting," according to one official with knowledge of the announcement.

In the aftermath of the 2016 election, Trump claimed widespread voter fraud explained why former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton emerged with nearly 3 million more popular votes. To date, neither Trump nor his team has provided evidence to substantiate the claims, but they have promised an investigation.

turned up ANY new information for investigative journalists and analysts to leap on?

What a fool. Rump clearly has worked himself into believing he is a victim of election fraud, which he can use to change the dialogue.

Another Rump-set fire for horrified GOP leaders to get control of and put out before it has a chance to burn them bad.

The same Kris Kobach who helped to rig the last elections w/Cross Check?

****

Starting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP–controlled states.

The system, called Crosscheck, is detailed in my Rolling Stone report,
“The GOP’s Stealth War on Voters,” 8/24/2016.

Crosscheck in action:
Trump victory margin in Michigan: 13,107
Michigan Crosscheck purge list: 449,922

Trump victory margin in Arizona: 85,257
Arizona Crosscheck purge list: 270,824

Trump victory margin in North Carolina: 177,008
North Carolina Crosscheck purge list: 589,393

On Tuesday, we saw Crosscheck elect a Republican Senate and as President, Donald Trump. The electoral putsch was aided by nine other methods of attacking the right to vote of Black, Latino and Asian-American voters, methods detailed in my book and film, including “Caging,” “purging,” blocking legitimate registrations, and wrongly shunting millions to “provisional” ballots that will never be counted.

Yes, put in big vote suppressers so they can tell everyone everything's just fine, except we need to not let women and brown people vote. This fig leaf is totally transparent and if he thinks this will alleviate our concerns, it just shows how supremely stupid and arrogant he truly is.

I'm not sure that's such a bad idea. That way, when a voter presents it there's no way they can be denied the right to vote or be shunted into a "provisional" ballot that ends up in the trash.

That and eliminate machines, install hand counted paper ballots and we might just start winning elections.

Birth certificates are notably lacking for many older African-Americans especially if they were born in the segregated South, and Latino Americans and people who were generally too poor to have been born in a good hospital or kept their documents carefully in a stable house while growing up.

It's deliberately to stop minorities from voting.

I know a few too many people who are eligible voters but due to clerical errors or inaccurate record keeping in poorer neighborhoods they had difficulty getting voter IDs upon moving to some red states even though they had a drivers license from elsewhere.

also have appropriated funding and staff to help people get IDs including costs of correcting clerical errors like miss-spelled names in time for the next election.

That won't happen because these laws are written by conservative policy groups like ALEC who have famously admitted they don't want people to vote. Daring us to do something about it. They spew complete lies about voter fraud to make reasonable people believe ids would be a reasonable request when it's actually a major hardship for millions of Americans.

The simple fact that Latinos were in line to vote in Florida caused Republican politicians to claim illegal immigrants were voting.

Every team they enact voter ID in a state it has been shown to disproportionally affect minorities, young voters and women. This is their plan for winning in '18 and '20.

2016 was also the first presidential election since the Supreme Court stripped voters of the 1965 Voting Rights Act's protections, and many voters in critical swing states reported long lines and intimidation at polling sites, as Common Dreams reported at the time.

The Associated Press spoke to multiple Wisconsinites who discovered to their dismay that they would not be able to vote in the November election. In one poignant story, an elderly couple found themselves turned away by poll workers who knew them personally:
