UN nuclear agency: 'No credible indications' of any nuclear activity in Iran after 2009

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 05/01/18 09:15 AM EDT

The U.N.'s nuclear agency rejected claims from Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday that Iran's government is conducting nuclear weapons research in secret.

In an assessment released Tuesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) wrote that there was "no credible indications" to support claims that Iran was continuing its "coordinated" nuclear weapons program after 2009, The Associated Press reports.

Netanyahu made the claims Monday in a speech in Tel Aviv as part of his effort to urge President Trump to scrap the Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015 under the Obama administration, which was meant to ensure Iran does not complete development of a nuclear weapon.

Critics say the deal is too weak and has led to Iran pursuing the weapons in secrecy.

Listen to any of Dr Moniz's description of the monitoring that was created under his leadership. The fact is that it is stronger than any previous monitoring program.

I hope that President Obama, Moniz, or Kerry will take on Netanyahu's inherently dishonest "performance". I have seen some of the news accounts - including my local paper's USA today insert - completely falling for Netanyahu. I assume that the writer knew very little about the deal. It is very weak logic to claim that because Iran lied before the deal that they had no program, it means that they are now cheating --- or that the P5 + 1 were naive and believed Iran then. In fact, there are many statements by them that they didn't AND they would not have committed the huge effort to get a deal -- that stopped a nuclear program, if they believed Iran did not have one!

It is fasccinating that Netanyahu gets huge respect in the US ... while the Israeli newspaper's show him as someone who lies often and who is corrupt.

from the investigations happening with both he and his wife. There had been JP claims that an indictment was "imminent" for his wife last month, but obviously that hasn't happened yet (and the article said it could be "days" or "weeks" ).
