WH Staffer Still Hasn't Publicly Apologized For Remark About 'Dying' McCain

White House communications aide Kelly Sadler still has not publicly apologized for joking about Sen. John McCains (R-AZ) health, three days after she reportedly said McCains opposition to CIA director nominee Gina Haspel didnt matter because hes dying anyway.
McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer last year and is currently at home in Arizona.
CNN reported Sunday that in a previously-reported phone call with McCains daughter Meghan McCain, Sadler promised to apologize publicly for the comment. She still has not done so. CNN cited an unnamed source familiar with the conversation who described Sadlers promise.
In fact, no one from the Trump administration has apologized for the remark, nor suggested Sadler should or will lose her job. White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said the comment was awful but a joke. He, reportedly like White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was more upset that the comment had been leaked to reporters.

(12,608 posts)So he didn't mind the remark, as long as it was not leaked. Mr. McCain, your party has turned their back on you. See how they treated Bob Dole?

(8,954 posts)why would Sadler feel compelled to apologize? Decency and norms no longer apply in those circles. If anything she scored points.

(10,279 posts)members. So, my guess is they would not appreciate an apology. I find it strange that McCain accepts that. There is nothing left in the GOP for him to embrace. He should change his party registration to Independent and caucus with the DEMs. Then, the real "joke" would be if he lives long enough to vote on something important in the US Senate and sticks it to McConnell.

(59,475 posts)There is no joke here. No punch line, no play on words, nothing ironic, nothing absurd. There is absolutely no form of comedy involved. It is a cold statement that they need not be concerned with McCain's statement or POV ... because he will be dead soon.
Am I missing something that turns this into a joke in any way?

(972 posts)Thanks for nothing I guess. Oh well, McCain is asshole anyway. Just because he is a thorn in the side of Trump now doesn't wipe out the decades of votes he cast for rightwing causes.
