The first trailer for Michael Moores Donald Trump documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 has been released, promising an incendiary look at modern life in America.
The Oscar-winning film-maker has been focusing on the effect of the president in an attempt to shift public perception before November. Im finishing my movie and getting it out before the midterms because I want millions of people to get to the polls, he said to Bill Maher in June. Were going to bring Trump down.
In the first footage from the film, we see Moore speak to Parkland student and activist David Hogg and rising Democratic star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Bowling for Columbine director is also seen spraying Flint water into the front yard of Rick Snyder, the governor of Michigan.
Moore goes on to describe Trump as the last president of the United States. The title is a reference to the day that he won the election.
In an interview with HuffPost, Moore describes Trump as an evil genius and speaks to the potential power of his new film.
On opening weekend, Fahrenheit 9/11 was the number one movie in every red state in the country, he says in reference to his award-winning documentary. It was a hit in military towns and on military bases. My choir is the American people. The old guard of the Democratic party has failed to speak to them. I will at least give them a song they can belt out.

(6,369 posts)As far as shifting public perception, I'm not sure. Republicans and independents probably won't watch it. And the Democrats who will watch a Michael Moore documentary are probably voting in midterms already.

(4,642 posts)they are beyond help, but it just might get some independents, repug lite voters who dislike tRump to the polls. His HRC special just before the last election was the best, most positive account of her life and political career I ever seen and did energize a lot of voters, just not enough to overcome Russia and the fascists dirty tricks.

(2,275 posts)You should be glad this brilliant, effective fillmmaker is on our side.
Visual media shoots straight to the brain stem and spurs action. Text must be translated into images and sounds so the process is more delayed (which isnt necessarily a bad thing).
This film will be picked up by progressives initially, then spread like wildfire to the fence sitters in the red states. It will break box office records for documentary, possibly outdoing its namesake Fahrenheit 9/11.

(4,642 posts)more like an evil, fascist pig conman. I think Moore held back on what he really wanted to call the monster, for production and persuasive reasons.
He meant to say "Putin is an evil genius"

(5,715 posts)Don't give him an "out," that he is a "moron," or "in mental decline," or any other plea that he could use if he is indicted. Don't give him anything that he can hide behind, or that his supporters can use to excuse him, or that his supporters can use to "justify" that he was maligned and the justice system was rigged against him!
I have been studying this man for many months now. He is ignorant (not stupid, just uninformed) about anything that he deems not to be of interest to him because it is not perceived to be of benefit to him. What is perceived to be of benefit to him is anything that multiplies his personal fortune, or the fortunes of his cronies who will in turn increase his personal fortune. This even applies to his own family. His son spoke the truth when he said that his father "only sees one color: green."
This is a man who - for whatever reason, maybe dyslexia? - appears to have a great deal of trouble reading. Over the years, he has indeed developed an outstanding memory from practice and necessity. He let Cohen handle any paperwork or "dirty work." He learned to verbally dodge and weave and work his way out of problems. Age may have taken the edge off his memory ability, but that is still his preferred way to handle things - it is why he lives on the phone.
Adding to this is a pretty good amount of physical endurance for his age and a complete, total absence of conscience or any belief system or loyalty, which make him a very dangerous individual. And over it all is a ferocious self-confidence and ego, which allow him to lie at will, in any way that will serve him in the moment.
He has learned many "con" tricks over the years that served him well in forming a TV persona. Many of these old tricks, such as repeating a lie so often it becomes accepted as the truth, amazingly still work on the public, because human nature evolves slowly. P.T. Barnum would have tipped his hat to this guy.
What are his weaknesses? In his heart is a black hole of neediness for recognition and adulation. He is dying to impress anyone whom he holds as an inspiration, which are basically strongmen, dictators, and "tough guys." He needs the adoring crowds at rallies like he needs oxygen. He is threatened and terrified by strong women; being "bested" by a woman is, by his thinking, being completely emasculated. Also, because he is so verbal and seems to work from presence of mind, that is, whatever his thoughts are on at the moment, he has lacks any verbal filter and can sometimes say too much. His attorneys are doing their best to protect him from perjuring himself. He is also hedonistic, which was easily covered when he was a businessman, but in the light of public office can cause compound problems.
I am very anxious to see Moore's movie, as I hope that he has some ideas as to how we can come together as a nation and realign with the ideals upon which this country was founded. I look to smarter people than myself for help for this!
Bottom line, beware of the one in the Oval Office. He is in a position of unbelievable power and is difficult to remove from that power. We dismiss him as a "moron" at great peril.
