Romney breaks with GOP to oppose Trump's judicial pick who called Obama 'un-American impostor'
Source: Washington Post
Republican Sen. Mitt Romney broke with President Trump and the rest of his party Tuesday to oppose the confirmation of a federal judge who had referred to former president Barack Obama as an “un-American impostor.” Romney (Utah) was the only voting senator to break ranks on a party-line vote to seat Michael J. Truncale on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. In a brief interview after the vote, Romney mentioned 2011 comments Truncale made to a women’s group in Beaumont, Tex., in which he spoke about Obama. “There were some things that he said about President Obama that were disparaging, and as a Republican presidential nominee, I felt I just couldn’t go along with that for a judge,” Romney said Tuesday. 1. Good for Romney, this time
He's already much better than Orrin Hatch
Though that bar is pretty damned low |

Run on the "we're not insane" platform.
Probably work. |

18. That would be a very bad choice
Biden is already too conservative. He'll need to pick someone that can unite the party and picking Romney sends all the wrong messages.

19. no - Romney is in his own way nearly as crazy as Trump
that is why I still think he will run. I believe Romney feels that he has been appointed by his god to be the first Mormon president.
We don't need anyone like Romney anywhere near our party. I would think if Biden made such a move he would hand another term to the crazy man. |

I have no idea why 5 Senators didn't vote. Here's the vote breakdown:

8. As the GOP moves this country towards fascism, they are counting on the judiciary to lead the way.
David Sentelle began that effort in the 1990s. Royce Lamberth has been a long-time stalwart in those efforts. I suspect that Mr. Truncale, along with many other Trump appointees, will double down on this mission.

it is the only plausible explanation for the amazing assembly of rapidly evolving swamp creatures.

13. The GOP rotating crew in charge of moral pretense and conscience is fucking disgusting. This
insults, undermines and scoff at every struggle by every veteran, immigrant, disenfranchised minority, everyone before us who believed the founders' attempt to make this a more perfect union.
