University of Alabama's Top Donor Pushes Boycott Over Abortion Law

Now the school may return his millions.

The fallout from Alabama’s near-total ban on abortion continues to grow—now pitting the University of Alabama against its biggest donor.

Hugh Culverhouse Jr., an attorney and philanthropist, donated $21.5 million last year to UA, which named its law school after him.

But Culverhouse—the son of the late Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner who shared his name—raised hackles this week when he called on students to boycott enrollment over the new law.

“I cannot stand by silently and allow my name to be associated with a state educational system that teaches students law that clearly conflicts with the United States Constitution and Federal law, and which promotes blatant discrimination,” he said in a statement.

I think this'll have some legs. I've been curious what the role of the universities in all this is going to be (especially since I have friends whose daughters are choosing not to enroll at those schools).

Now I hope some big donors in other states with these ridiculous laws follow suit!

Doubt that'll happen, but maybe if these schools lose top coaching candidates, that'll have some effect (I love college sports, don't get me wrong, and I'd love for them to make a difference in this debate).

That either the Supreme Court pressure, or themselves before it comes to that, will throw up their hands eventually and say....

"Okay okay...you got us! (damn libtards) And we will relent and roll back the law to exempt rape / incest cases. Okay? Is everyone happy?....good! Now lets not bring it up again."

And then the Pavlovian response from more conservative groups, or just entertainment industries that are looking for any kind of excuse to drop it and take advantage of the tax savings, will be to come back slow but sure under cover of predictably new awful actions by Trump or his party.

But there is so much fucked up with Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and almost all of the rest of the Confederate states, you have to ask; "what took you so long"?

Is murdering women and young girls your "breaking point"?
