Ex-FBI Director James Comey violated department policies with Trump memos, watchdog says

Source: CNBC

Former FBI Director James Comey violated Justice Department and FBI policies, as well as his employment agreement, in his handling of memos documenting conversations with President Donald Trump, a Justice Department watchdog said Thursday.

Comey, who was fired by Trump in May 2017, is not being prosecuted for the alleged violations detailed in the scathing report by the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General.

“By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees—and the many thousands more former FBI employees—who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information,” the report said.

The report focused on Comey’s “disclosure of sensitive investigative information and handling of certain memoranda,” which included how he created, stored and handled seven memos detailing “one-to-one” interactions with Trump from Jan. 6, 2017 through April 11, 2017.

35. I would have been making copies of documents and spreading them around just in case, as well.

While I've forgiven Comey for giving us Trump in the first place, he's certainly served his penance for what he did to Hillary. I just wish the Repugnants had some balls and the guts to take on Trump. But then thats just wishful thinking, I guess.

3. Wouldn't Comey's disclosure of some of the memos

be protected by the federal whistleblower law? 5 U.S.C. 2302(b)(8)-(9) protects an employee who reports the possible existence of an activity "constituting a violation of law, rules, or regulations, or mismanagement, gross waste of funds, abuse of authority or a substantial and specific danger to public health and safety."

16. Won't matter. Rule of law is broken.

They'll trump up a charge. Trump will want to make an example of someone & fire up his base. Comey is perfect cuz both sides hate him.

Seriously, I don't know if they'll have show trials or not, but that I can even imagine it happening is fucked up as hell. If they do, though, HRC better have a bag packed & know which are the non-extraditable countries.

32. Show trials.

My friends tell me it could never get that bad here, but I think of the kids in cages at the border, & how it doesn't seem that anyone can do anything about that, so are show trials so hard to imagine? And who would cult 45 like most to put on trial? "Lock her up!" At one time it all seemed like paranoia speculation, but some days I don't feel confident that we'll survive Trump/Barr/McConnell.

25. Just as

Just as Colin Powell single handedly swung the people into backing the Iraq war, Comey swung the people singlehandedly into voting against Hillary.

He, all alone, gave the fence sitters a "reason" to fall off the fence and vote for Trump.........

Powell wanted soooo much to be a member of the Rich White Boys club he was willing to stand up there and LIE to the American public to get into the good graces of the Rich White Boy's club. Of all people, he should have known they would kick him to the curb the second they got their way. (which they did). Same for Comey..........

People have such short memories......It was Colin Powell who led the massive coverup of the Mai Lai (sp) massacre..........
I tend to feel the same way about Mueller. He could have done a much better job of going after Trump and taking him down, but his will to do that was somewhat diluted by his being a lifetime Republican, and not wanting to bring down the entire republican party along with Trump, which would have happened..........

Goes out of his way to torpedo Hillary and provide his political party with an October surprise ensuring a known Traitor's election to the pumped up presidency.

AND that known traitor, that he delivered for, hounds him constantly with insults, lies and threatened prosecution.

Did Comey really think his actions through?

20. So let me get this straight. Trump & his grifters can break rules, laws, & the Constitution

with the GOP looking the other way and making no attempt to rein the traitorous grifters in.

Yet, we the American people and our law enforcement agencies are expected to play by "Marcus of Queensberry" rules. Rules that inhibit their attempts to hold Trump and his grifters accountable for their illegal acts.

Tell that to the 58,000+ servicemen and women whose names are inscribed on The Wall. Those who died honoring their oath to "Support the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

Trump and his band of grifters are the worst domestic enemies this country has ever seen. And they are being helped by a historical enemy, the Russians.

I say the hell with expecting the law enforcement agencies fighting the enemies of our Democracy to play by any other rules than what it takes to rid us of those that would ignore the Constitution to destroy our Democracy.

How stupid is it to tie the hands of those fighting to save our Country.

To me, it sounds like a suicidal act. Historians will write that we either won the battle and destroyed the enemy or we lost our Democracy because we wanted to be honorable and follow rules that the enemy ignored.

So he broke "policy", but not "the law"...?

The Reich started screaming about this a day or two ago. They will take this as vindication that the guy most instrumental in getting their mob and Russian-connected traitor elected, broke the law and should be charged...and imprisoned.

"New York Field Office"

The FBI field office's anti-Hillary agents that, pre-election, illegally leaked to the media and Giuliani, and a bunch of others trying to intimidate Comey into reopening the Clinton email probe in October 2016. Actions we know occurred with the aid of Trump advisers.

Wall Street Journal, 08 December 2018:

WASHINGTON - Former FBI director James Comey told members of Congress this week that he was concerned officials in the bureau’s New York field office had leaked sensitive information to prominent Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani in the closing days of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Comey asked for a probe of those leaks to weasels like like Rudy Giuliani. Mr. IG....
