HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) With paid speeches, a book coming out and appearances on cable news, Sarah Sanders is following the traditional route for former press secretaries after leaving the White House as President Donald Trumps chief spokeswoman. But shes also getting reacquainted with her home state of Arkansas and laying the groundwork for a potential governors race in three years.
Sanders has begun headlining Republican Party dinners around Arkansas, allowing her to reconnect with the state she called home before joining the Trump White House and offer GOP insiders a preview of what shed look like as a candidate for the job her dad, Mike Huckabee, held for more than a decade. Speaking to a ballroom packed with more than 500 people in Hot Springs last week, the former press secretary known for her televised sparring with reporters joked about being greeted by applause when she comes to the podium.
Its very different than what Im used to, she said.
Sanders and her husband, a political consultant, moved to Little Rock in late July with their three children. Since leaving the White House, shes joined Fox News as a contributor and announced that she has a book coming out next year about her time as press secretary. Shes also delivered paid speeches and is working as a consultant for several corporations. She waived her speaking fees for local GOP speeches.
Trump has encouraged her to run for governor in 2022, when Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson is barred by term limits from seeking reelection.

(11,035 posts)If she gets out of the Republican primary, she will certainly win in the general. It will be a very long time before a Democrat wins a state-wide election in Arkansas. A majority of people in Arkansas will be slow to forgive the Democrats for putting a black man in the White House.

There will not be another Democrat elected state-wide for at least a decade.

(11,035 posts)We have reached a point in Arkansas that whoever wins the GOP nomination for any state-wide race wins the general election.

(7,947 posts)Well, Kentucky learned their lesson finally. I don't know why they were so surprised that Bevin did that, and the Arkansans should not be too shocked either. Maybe they will learn too, that a Trump acolyte isn't good for their health.
Her dad, no doubt, is pleased as punch.

(8,311 posts)First time I'd ever take advantage of our open primaries, but I'd do it to make sure she lost at that level.
I mean, I am afraid to ask who else they could put up there on the R side, but I'm pretty sure whoever the state voted for as a Democratic candidate would be just fine, and I'd be voting Dem in the general of course.
But seriously, not again. I don't want to revive my "Get the Huck Out" bumpersticker magnet collection, but I will (though they will get stolen... cry)

(4,972 posts)and Sarah Sanders is as professional of a liar as they get. Arkansas voted for Rump, why not her? Seems like a the logical choice in the continuing evolution to an idiocracy. Her father is such a good christian man though I don't know how she gets away with bearing so much false witness.
