Many Spectrum customers Saturday in northern New York are experiencing service issues with their internet and TV.
The company became aware of the issue after nearly 12,000 problems with TV or internet were reported about Spectrum.

"We are aware of service issues in Upstate New York, Maine and New Hampshire at this time," Spectrum's support team said in a tweet Saturday. "We are investigating and working to resolve the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience this is causing."

In a second tweet, Spectrum said services within its entire northeast region are currently impacted by fiber optic damage, and that crews are making repairs to restore service as soon as possible.

Posting this in LBN because this is affecting the entire Northeast, and appears to be getting worse...
On edit: My internet just came back up!

(18,770 posts)...however, I'm having a hard time understanding why "fiber optic damage" took out the entire Northeast. There are redundancies and failovers built into this - far beyond redundancies you would see in, for example, the power grid.

(14,961 posts)cruise ship in NJ, people were freaking out, rightly so. I wouldn't put anything past the Trump admin...I know that sounds tin foil hatty, I have a feeling you are one of the few that grasps the gravity of the situation.

But we used to be charter, so maybe some legacy infrastructure saved us?

(4,514 posts)and it was due to vandalism. Cables were deliberately cut. So, it's interesting that they are describing it that way.

(snip)
Looks more like a major hacker attack perhaps combined with equipment/cable failure at a major routing hub.

(10,749 posts)My spectrum internet went out at my office yesterday around 3:30. So I left early. I just hope its back up by Monday morning.
I have to agree with others whose eyebrows are raised. Really, wtf?
How many voting systems in the area affected use spectrum? Why did likely backup systems not kick in? Specifically where were the primary outages? And why? And not a bs fiber optic issue.

(17,383 posts)situations like this i need a seprate phone . unless at and t go out like it did last year in california due to fibre damage . we also need to stick to vote by mail with paper ballots only, not evoting machines that can be rigged.

(3,476 posts)I've been on auto pay with Spectrum and their predecessors here in Los Angeles for at least 20 years, suddenly they start calling and threatening me with cutting off my service because I'm *not paying my bill*. I called American Express, who I auto pay through, and they stated Spectrum has not even attempted to charge me for the last 2 months...
Anyway I got that straightened out and wrangled an almost $50 a month discount on my bill for a year. Then they asked me about my cell phone, I've been totally happy with my carrier for years, I'm on something called "THRIVE 55" or similar and I get 2 phones, unlimited everything, for $55 a month plus $7 for the 2nd phone, and fees, so around $75 a month.
They offered me Spectrum cell phone service for 2 phones, unlimited, keep my phone numbers and phones, for $28 a month. With a free switch back to my current provider within 2 weeks , which I checked with my provider and they said if I come back I get my original phone numbers back too. Sounds like a great deal, but my first thought was:
If Spectrum goes down, as they often do, I probably have NO cell phone service. Is that what happened today, the phones were gone too? Or would phones keep working, I figure Spectrum is leasing digital space from some larger provider since they told me "you'll be part of the nation's largest phone service".

We are unfortunately in tin foil hat land.
Remember, they didn't have the capabilities to get into our voter databases, either.

(6,241 posts)Im the guy on the line that answers questions about the outage. Been a crazy day today. But, yeah, damage to fiber lines. Just killed a bunch of service. But we got it back up. Queue went from 150 to nearly 2000 in 10 minutes. We got it down to 250 now. Still back to back, though. Im going home in 45 minutes.

(6,241 posts)I work in video repair, and I can set up a trouble call if I can see the signals of your box dont look great, or I can get you over to Internet and Phone. I can tell you if its the WiFi that keeps dropping, or if its that the modem keeps losing connection. But Id love to help. Ive been here 8 years, and its the best job Ive ever had.

(2,256 posts)They installed an in-line amp a few years ago when I had multiple receivers. Now its just a modem with the amp still there. I think the channels power levels spike on occasion causing the hiccup in the system. I need to just call a tech out but I keep putting it off. Anyways, have heart.
