Appeals Court Rules Against Kansas Voter Restriction Championed By Kobach

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Kansas proof-of-citizenship voter registration requirement in a decision issued Wednesday.

The appeals court backed the trial judge’s finding that the requirement, which was championed by then-Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R), violated both the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution and the National Voter Registration Act.

16. Sorry but there are idiot Republicans in EVERY State.....

KKKobach is a asshat that even most Republicans dislike. Our Dem Gov Laura Kelly is doing a hell of a job and Barbara Bollinger has a really good chance of winning a Senate seat of Pat Roberts IF the DNC will get behind her and help out.

I've lived here for almost 67 years and I've seen it worse politically...a LOT worse.

4. Kobach

My wife and I raised two sons. One is a mechanical engineer. The other is a child psychiatrist. They both left Kansas and never looked back. As someone said in regard to all the closed restaurants, “Life is smaller and less colorful without restaurants – more Kansas than Oz.”

6. Well, there's a breath of less-rancid air.......

But I suspect it will remain rancid until every last repuglikan carcass is dragged off to the pit and covered with a dense mixture of soil and cement.

8. Worthy of "notable quotes" .......................

"Well, there's a breath of less-rancid air.......but I suspect it will remain rancid until every last repuglikan carcass is dragged off to the pit and covered with a dense mixture of soil and cement."

DAMN, you've got a way with words!

And, yes, our work is not done until we have done the correct mixing of soil and cement - GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!

10. GOTFV--the highest priority!!

We can't do the other until we've accomplished that! I sincerely hope I can contribute to that effort in some way, but it likely hinges on some family-health issues. Were it not for those, I would say to hell with everything else, and focus on defeating those rat-basturds in November, and making any survivors' lives hell until their times come. We have got to do it if we want to put our country on the path to something we and the world can be proud of. That's the ultimate goal, and if repuglikans continue to stand in the way, they may find themselves in that dense mixture. ---

(thanks for the compliment, btw!)

19. Didn't the last judge cite him for contempt?

That was fun to follow. Between the ACLU and the judge I’m surprised the appeal was heard.
I still don’t understand why voter suppression ( civil rights violations )Does not result in jail time. Two years for each vote.I think that would work as a deterrent.

22. Through the years, I have come to a reasonable working definition of judicial activism.

Judicial activism: A judicial decision with which one disagrees.

The problem with my definition is that it works both ways. When SCOTUS issues an opinion with which I disagree (i.e. most SCOTUS opinions), I don't decry judicial activism. Instead I decry yet another blow to justice, the rule of law, or simple decency.
