In filing deadline surprise, controversial state Rep. Matt Shea won't seek reelection
Source: Seattle Times
Controversial Spokane Valley state Rep. Matt Shea, who was suspended from the House Republican caucus after an investigation concluded he had engaged in domestic terrorism, will not seek reelection this fall. Shea did not file to run again for the Legislature as the candidate filing deadline for the August primary expired Friday afternoon, said Mike McLaughlin, elections manager for the Spokane County Auditor’s Office. Shea did, however, file to run as a Republican precinct committee officer. The surprise development came after Shea had for months defiantly refused calls from Republican and Democratic leaders to resign, vowing to fight on and not bow down to what he called “a coup” against him. Shea’s decision came after a House-commissioned investigation released in December concluded the lawmaker planned and participated in domestic terrorism against the United States with his involvement in a trio of standoffs against the government Read more: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/in-filing-deadline-surprise-controversial-state-rep-matt-shea-wont-seek-reelection/ Shea gained notoriety by planning a military Biblical crusade against the government and was widely denounced by both parties. 1. "State officials said they billed Shea for more than $4,700 in damages
after the lawmaker apparently poured olive oil along the steps of the Capitol in the waning days of the legislative session as part of a counter-demonstration"

3. Apparently a Satanic group held a protest on the capital steps and Shea dumpted olive oil to counter

4. If we can turn Spokane blue,
we can turn anywhere blue. I have a stepson who lives there and I have visited there several times. Everyone there is white. The only black people I saw there were athletes at Gonzaga University. The homeless were white. The waitresses at the Chinese restaurant were white. Whitest place I've ever been to in my life.

6. The City of Spokane voted for Lisa Brown and against Rodgers in 2018 but
the "City of Spokane Valley" voted right wing, that is where Shay is from.
Spokane County voted 53 - 47 for Rodgers. You might be surprised that the head of Spokane's NAACP chapter was a very popular City Councilman and won the Mayors seat in a landslide against a well known businessman in the 1980s. He didn't run for re election due to health reasons. His funeral was attended by over 1000 mourners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Everett_Chase |

8. Thanks for that info.
I was just relating a few observation I had that seemed very strange to someone who grew up in Silicon Valley and has lived in California for nearly 60 years.

5. Good -- this guy is a fascist whackjob.
I learned about Shea thanks to the excellent Bundyville podcast series from Oregon Public Radio.
I hope law enforcement is keeping a close eye on him and his associates. |

7. Excellent news
now we don't have to know if they would have re-elected him in light of the messes he has made.
