Early data on Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine insufficient: Stat News
Source: Reuters
Data from a small, early-stage safety trial testing Moderna Incs experimental COVID-19 vaccine does not provide critical data to assess its effectiveness, Stat News reported on Tuesday, citing experts.
The health news publication's report bit.ly/36kKerh pulled down shares of the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biotech and erased modest gains on the benchmark S&P 500 index.
Moderna said on Monday the vaccine candidate, the first to be tested in the United States, produced protective antibodies in a small group of healthy volunteers.
The news based on data from eight people who took part in a 45-subject safety trial sent the companys shares up nearly 20% on Monday and also pushed the markets higher.

It's reported success was the biggest reason I've seen given for yesterday's 912 point run-up on the Dow.
The Dow quickly dropped after the news came out this afternoon, closing down 390 points.

I guarantee Donny Bodybags got a taste of that.

(19,835 posts)early data on Moderna vaccine was base on 20% of a 45-person trial. We all want a vaccine, but the full context of the trial results should be provided so the global public understands where things stand.

(25,225 posts)I said it was market manipulation and that it would be down again today. I just learned that it was.
I'm sure people were tipped off about the news - on both days and they made money when the market went up and today when it dropped.
Probably the Mar-a Lago members.

Maybe they'll succeed, they beat the CDC at identifying hantavirus and its vector when we had a big cluster of cases in the 90s.

(2,022 posts)In short, it says the data is very preliminary and incomplete and a scientific paper is needed. I would call it a balanced report, but not a useful one.
Moderna responded that a scientific paper is being prepared.
