Trump to sign executive order on social-media companies on ThursdayThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by JudyM (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). President Donald Trump is poised to sign an executive order on social-media companies Thursday, escalating his war on Twitter Inc., although it remains unclear what it will entail. A White House spokesperson confirmed the order late Wednesday, a day after Twitter TWTR, -2.76% issued its first fact-checking warning label to some of his tweets. In a series of tweets Wednesday, Trump threatened to “regulate” or even “close” social-media platforms. Legal experts scoffed at the president’s ability to moderate f social-media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook Inc. FB, -1.31% and Snap Inc. SNAP, -2.35% . ### Read more: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump-to-sign-executive-order-on-social-media-companies-on-thursday-2020-05-27?mod=newsviewer_click What are your thoughts? Alien and Sedition Acts pretty much dispensed with this kind of nonsense.
Alien and Sedition Acts From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Alien and Sedition Acts were four laws passed by the Federalist-dominated 5th United States Congress and signed into law by President John Adams in 1798.[1][nb 1] They made it harder for an immigrant to become a citizen (Naturalization Act), allowed the president to imprison and deport non-citizens who were deemed dangerous ("An Act Concerning Aliens", also known as the Alien Friends Act of 1798)[2] or who were from a hostile nation (Alien Enemy Act of 1798),[3] and criminalized making false statements that were critical of the federal government (Sedition Act of 1798).[4] The Alien Friends Act expired two years after its passage, and the Sedition Act expired on 3 March 1801, while the Naturalization Act and Alien Enemies Act had no expiration clause. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_and_Sedition_Acts |

14. We'll see what Jack Dorsey does about that illegal executive order. MF45's war power should never
include privately owned media, and I don't believe courts will allow him that war power to inhibit Americans' ability to use it just because he's mad about being factually called out as a liar.
Jack Dorsey will fight him. Then there's Zuckerberg, who'll likely turn on MF45. This stupid poser prez is managing to not only alienate social media platforms, but 1) eliminate a few channels that Russian troll farms use to support his messaging, and 2) shut down his own national voice. I can't wait to find out what his executive order says. ![]() ![]() Social platform owners will likely not only win this battle, but publicly denounce MF45's lousy business sense. |

42. What's to stop Facebook and Twitter from:
1. Declaring Trump's contributions and responses to those as undesirable and disruptive to their business model?
2. Declaring external influences, non factual information and other propaganda posts as being undesirable? There may well be escalation of response to Trump's threats by both Facebook and Twitter along the lines of having his future posts rejected, and having past posts and responses severely edited or deleted altogether. Use of the social media platforms was originally never considered to be tools for lies and propaganda aimed at destabilizing American society. |
