Obama on death of George Floyd: 'This shouldn't be 'normal' in 2020 America'

Source: CNN

(CNN)Former President Barack Obama on Friday weighed in on the death of a black man, George Floyd, in police custody that has sparked protests across the country.

"This shouldn't be 'normal' in 2020 America. It can't be 'normal.' If we want our children to grow up in a nation that lives up to its highest ideals, we can and must be better," Obama said in a statement.

"It will fall mainly on the officials of Minnesota to ensure that the circumstances surrounding George Floyd's death are investigated thoroughly and that justice is ultimately done," Obama writes.

"But it falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station -- including the majority of men and women in law enforcement who take pride in doing their tough job the right way, every day -- to work together to create a 'new normal' in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts," he writes.

More, surprisingly from a Fox News link!

[div class"excerpt"]"It's natural for us to wish for life 'to just get back to normal' as a pandemic and economic crisis upend everything around us," Obama said in a statement. "But we have to remember for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly 'normal' -- whether it's while dealing with the health care system, or interacting with the criminal justice system, or jogging down the street, or watching birds in a park."

"This shouldn't be 'normal' in 2020 America," the former president continued.

He is pathetically encouraging more violence with his idiotic tweets, and he'll probably tweet a ridiculous statement such as 'both sides are at fault' etc., pure nonsense.

It's the toxic elements in this country that work 24/7 to keep us from doing so. This element needs to not feel comfortable in this country. It just ain't the country for them. They need to look elsewhere. It does not represent their philosophy or their "reality." If it ever did, it can't and it never will. Theirs is a lost cause that can't function here in or beyond 2020. Like trying to breath life into a corpse that serves no purpose. And the institutions that allow this element to exist within them need to be held more accountable. They need to be forced to take responsibility for their irresponsibility. Forced to address a polluted stream at the source rather than somewhere downriver where they blame someone else because they need to in order to hide the real issue, the toxic elements within their ranks. So the disease persists. The police get to play war games. And politicians tell people to not react. To not feel. Then wash, rinse, repeat. I suppose the remedy is that more of us start making more of an effort to be part of those institutions that have been infiltrated by those toxic individuals that do not want us to live what most of us feel.

That's my two cents anyway.
