NYPD Commissioner '1,000 percent' behind plan to move some NYPD funds to youth and social services

Source: WPIX-TV

On the 11th day of protests in New York City, the “Justice for George Floyd” chants morphed into demands to take at least $1 billion out of the $6 billion NYPD budget and give it to communities of color, specifically youth social services programs.

It is something Mayor Bill de Blasio agreed with in principle on Sunday morning.

Citizens will demand better results and accountability. We're coming for your budget means we're coming for your jobs. I know police have a tough and often dangerous job, and portions of the unruly public are not always compliant. But I've also seen postings online about the compensation officers of the law receive in some jurisdictions. Seems to me nothern NJ I read 20 year veteran $100k and a $145k pension. Ordinary folks have to wonder if it's worth it, or why so much, or what they're paying for in light of the excesses being revealed these days.
