Trump Vows to Submit 'Enhanced Papers' After Supreme Court DACA Ruling
Source: Bloomberg
Donald Trump said his administration will submit enhanced papers on its decision to strip protections for immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children after the Supreme Court blocked the action this week.
The Supreme Court asked us to resubmit on DACA, nothing was lost or won. They punted, much like in a football game (where hopefully they would stand for our great American Flag). We will be submitting enhanced papers shortly in order to properly fulfil the Supreme Courts ruling, Trump tweeted on Friday, using an acronym for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy.
The justices, voting 5-4 on the central issues, said Trumps administration didnt adequately consider its options or the implications before rescinding DACA. Chief Justice John Roberts joined the courts liberal justices in the majority. Roberts said the Department of Homeland Security failed to consider conspicuous issues, including the hardship on DACA recipients and the possibility the agency could take a more limited step.
Trump didnt elaborate on what the enhance papers would contain.

ananda's astute court prediction:
Roberts will cave.

(11,954 posts)...then someone needs to get Roberts the documentation on all the revised voting laws that popped up after he gutted the Voting Rights Act on the basis of his belief that racial discrimination at the ballot box was no longer an issue.
I don't think the court works that way, though.

(143,999 posts)The SCOTUS ruled that trump was sloppy and did not justify the decision to eliminate DACA. trump can eliminate DACA if he does so for valid reason and not just because Stephen Miller and trump hates minorities.

(6,010 posts)This is a losing stance - 74% of the population favors legal status for DACA participants. But President Assface is too much of a whiny toddler to let it go. Carry on, fool.

(21,894 posts)After that he'll submit super enhanced papers, and if that doesn't work he'll submit ultra mega double augmented papers.

(4,438 posts)far from being a compassionate opinion, was laying out breadcrumbs for how Trump needed to do it, so that Roberts could uphold the action.

(4,527 posts)Hopefully he cant just throw more stuff together and then rush back to court in a last ditch effort.
Doesnt any request to be heard have to be scheduled, as in wait your turn and that could wind up being sometime after the election?
Just curious/hoping!

(8,984 posts)And so it could, in fact, take several months for the case to work its way thru the court system. Hopefully, Biden will be elected before that could get too far along.

(70,291 posts)btw does Trump even knows how the SCOTUS works? Cases have to come up to it and you don't
get to just send 'Enhanced Papers' to it and get a new ruling. And even if the Trump admin and or
the DoJ got "it" to the Supreme court they probably would not hear the case because it is settled law.

(my opinion only) - legal eagles will need to weigh in

Trump can certainly re-submit a plan, but it will have to be thoroughly researched and documented first. I doubt anyone left in the Trump WH has the willingness or ability to do that.

(1,979 posts)I thought when it went to the Supreme Court that it was the final answer?
Can this debate just go on forever and be continually resubmitted until they get the answer they want?
Good grief - when will this nightmare end???

(5,084 posts)It challenged ending DACA on a violation of the Administrative Procedure Act and that is what SCOTUS ruled on.
