Alabama coach Nick Saban led a march Monday afternoon of hundreds of the universitys athletes, coaches and staff that was organized to protest racial injustice in the country.
Saban was at the front of a large crowd of players who walked from the Mal Moore athletic facility to Foster Auditoriums schoolhouse door.
Senior running back Najee Harris walked next to Saban wearing a T-shirt reading, Defend Black Lives; racial solidarity against this corrupt system. Other players walked behind Saban holding a banner reading, Black Lives Matter. The march was also advertised on social media over the weekend by players with the hashtag #BLM.
Today Im like a proud parent, Saban said at the end of the march. Im proud of our team, Im proud of our messengers over here and Im very proud of the message. Im very proud of the All lives cant matter until Black lives matter video that we did early on that I think had a very positive impact. That was something we did together as a team.

I don't like Saban as a coach, don't like the Crimson Tide, but I'm reassessing my opinion of those guys.
Good for Nick and the team doing this in the deeeeeep South!

(17,778 posts)His recruiting prowess is legendary. And he does have far more to lose among the racist Alabama base. Thus, I believe the sentiment is genuine. We've come to a point where we all have to choose a side. Saban chose his.

(784 posts)And, by default, a Nick Saban hater forever, I find myself in the awkward position of defending him. That said, great job. We need more high-profile coaches from powerhouse teams taking a stand for BLM. Why more aren't coming forward says a lot.

(17,778 posts)From Huntsville to Mobile, white doughy guys are weighing their options....winning football team....or their racist inclinations? Be interesting to see which one wins.
