Judge orders USPS to reverse mail collection limits now
Source: Politico
A federal judge on Tuesday night ordered the U.S. Postal Service to reverse limitations on mail collection imposed by Trump-backed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, giving the agency until Wednesday morning to inform workers of the court's changes as more mail-in ballots continue to flood in.
In a highly detailed order, Judge Emmet Sullivan of the District Court for the District of Columbia granted an emergency motion by plaintiffs against President Donald Trump to enforce and monitor compliance with Sullivan's previous injunction tied to USPS services.
No later than 9 a.m. Wednesday, the judge said, agency workers must be told that a USPS leader's July guidelines limiting late and extra trips to collect mail are rescinded.
"USPS personnel are instructed to perform late and extra trips to the maximum extent necessary to increase on-time mail deliveries, particularly for Election Mail," Sullivan wrote. "To be clear, late and extra trips should be performed to the same or greater degree than they were performed prior to July 2020 when doing so would increase on-time mail deliveries.

(14,153 posts)I suppose someone in authority who backs Trump can lock the door. But I'd like to see some workers at least try to defy their boss. Let him try and fire them for following the judges orders.

(12,712 posts)DeJoy needs to be removed, investigated, indicted, prosecuted.
It is very obvious that he has committed a federal offense and may even have been told it all would be overlooked by the Trump Administration.
When we take back the White House and bring back law and order, that's another thing on the list to do.

(4,527 posts)And no more of this conciliatory nonsense about not looking back.
Been there, done that.
Obama was treated like crap, stonewalled and gas lighted for 8 years. He wanted to look ahead and not back.
This time, we kick @$$, and take names. I see nothing wrong with taking action on past SERIOUS offenses while we still look ahead and make meaningful change.
American voters want action and we need to deliver.
But, we need to make sure those who were egregious in their actions be brought to justice.
Otherwise our laws are useless and we lose the confidence of voters who put us in office.
DeJoy, Barr, Trump, Mnuchin, Pompeo, et al.
And we need to offer those who were fired without cause for political reasons, their jobs back. Im speaking of those who testified and told their stories about the corruption within the Trump administration. Give them promotions and show that America values service and loyalty.

If I recall correctly there are roughly 230-odd individuals who might fit this list of Trump's corrupt and corrosive appointees who are doing or have done dirty by their sworn oaths and public obligation.
Of course this also raises the question of what to do with McConnell, Nunes, and the other Putin Stooges in congress. I seem to recall that some of those islands with rising tides are for sale quite cheap.

(4,527 posts)But I must have been mistaken.
I thought there had already been a ruling in the last few weeks ordering DeJoy and the USPS to reverse all the policies instituted since DeJoy took office. Meaning that they were ALREADY supposed to be following Pre-July deadlines and delivery practices.
Or was that order appealed?
Gosh, I cant keep track of all this anymore.
Glad that Sullivan made this ruling. We have one week left to get the mail in time.

(61,592 posts)The USPS agreed to comply with the injunction, but the USPS has slowed down again.
The new order especially covers easy to fix procedural changes like allowing overtime pickups and handling election mail promptly.
The order is to put things back the way they were before DeJoy's sabotage.

I hope Dejoy is prosecuted and goes to jail.

(31,893 posts)I'm not trying to be a downer, it's just that there have already been 2 or 3 court rulings over the past couple months which have basically been either ignored, or just half-assedly complied with.
I simply don't trust that this latest ruling is going to make any difference.
