House Democrats Briefed On 3 Terrifying Plots To Overthrow Government
Source: Huffington Post
By Matt Fuller
WASHINGTON ― Capitol Police briefed Democrats on Monday night about three more potentially gruesome demonstrations planned in the coming days, with one plot to encircle the U.S. Capitol and assassinate Democrats and some Republicans.
On a private call Monday night, new leaders of the Capitol Police told House Democrats they were closely monitoring three separate plans that could pose serious threats to members of Congress as Washington prepares for Democrat Joe Bidens presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.
The first is a demonstration billed as the largest armed protest ever to take place on American soil.
Another is a protest in honor of Ashli Babbitt, the woman killed while trying to climb into the Speakers Lobby during Wednesdays pro-Trump siege of the Capitol.

(19,186 posts)This has the appearance of a psy-ops plan with the main goal of instilling fear in Democratic legislators and disrupting the inauguration. These domestic terrorists are not that coordinated, nor are they foolish enough to face the might of the entire United States security apparatus and the National Guard. There will be more Secret Service snipers on rooftops than there were Capitol Police at last weekend's insurrection. Then there are ground forces to contend with, along with various artillery installations. These terrorists aren't that well equipped to take on that degree of resistance. I don't believe they're suicidal, just boastful and stupid.
That said, it's best to prepare for anything these mangy mongrels might try to throw at the military installations and inaugural guests. They'd be severely outnumbered and under equipped for such an undertaking. Theres no way they could muster the 10,000 man number mentioned. I have every confidence in the Secret Service and National Guard to handle anything thrown at them. Like I said, this is more psy-ops than any actual attack plan. That's my opinion anyway.

(14,618 posts)What makes you think the civilian leaders at the dod will behave any differently than on 1/6? What makes you think resources will be deployed and not held back?
Biden won't have control for at least a week. Certainly he will have zero control as he is being sworn in.
NOTHING has changed. Two or three heads of the capitol police have been replaced, but not the person they reported to. Not the people at dod who approve national guard deployments. and not trump.
SergeStorms
(19,186 posts)is in control of security for the inauguration. This will not be controlled by Capitol Police or DC Police. The Secret Service plans for EVERY contingency, and there will be redundancy built in. That's why President-elect Biden sald he wasn't afraid to have the inauguration outside. He knows the extent to which the Secret Service prepares for any such event. I think the general public has to relax a bit to DEF-CON 3. The sky is not falling, and the United States Secret Service has got this. This is not their first rodeo.
getagrip_already
(14,618 posts)They are a security and logistics agency. They could easily be overwhelmed, and rely on support from other agencies for backup and first line defenses.
They don't have any magic wands, and they won't actually report to biden until he is sworn in, and only then after he takes control with his own appointments.
The national guard is an important first line of defense here. If they aren't there, nothing else works.

(1,119 posts)It's naive to believe that these terrorist groups are not organized and their efforts are not being coordinated. Many of their members are current/former LEOs and military. Also, it's become apparent that they've infiltrated many law enforcement/security organizations including the USSS. Hopefully, when called upon to aggressively suppress these insurrectionists, most security personnel will honor their oaths to uphold the laws to protect the law abiding public, the nation, and its institutions.

(19,186 posts)Good lord, get a grip, getagrip_already! Right now these domestic terrorist groups are on the run. They are in disarray. Theres no way a 10,000 man domestic terrorist army is going to surround Washington DC and start a war with the United States government. The media is blowing this way out of proportion, as usual.
Should we be vigilant and take precautions? Of course, but the things everyone is clutching their pearls about have about a 2% chance of occurring. If that. If you're going to start a covert war you don't advertise it. I'm totally confident that the Secret Service, the National Guard, local and federal law enforcement have this covered. If you don't, we'll just have to agree to disagree. We're all in this together, alright?
getagrip_already
(14,618 posts)my good stormy, that IS the point. Without the cavalry, the ss has no real defense against a rushing crowd.
If they get ordered to the barracks again, there is no protection.
What part of that is over the top?
SergeStorms
(19,186 posts)He's abdicated all presidential responsibilities. For all intents and purposes Mike Pence is the commander in chief right now. DoD has been reorganized again, and Trump's figureheads have been ordered to stand down. The organization that was in place a week ago is no longer in place.
Let me ask you this: After 9/11 when was it safest to fly again? Right after the FAA cleared air travel again. Remember everyone clapping and cheering when their aircraft touched down? In relation to last weekend's events, this is now that time.
Everything is going to be alright. Is it right to be concerned in light of last week's events? Of course, but believe me, they got this. I'm done here, but have a pleasant evening.

(15,512 posts)But we need it to go forward. Frankly the situation could not be more dangerous. I would much prefer a peaceful, televised, indoor inaugural than watching any kind of disruption unfold on live TV on Jan. 20.

(15,512 posts)Even if he's protected the whole thing fails if there's a gunbattle somewhere or choppers buzzing around in the airspace. And the last thing we need is Biden being grabbed by SS and dragged off camera for his own safety.
Do it inside and invite the cameras and a few friends. That would be plenty.

(1,522 posts)Both of those I had never heard of, but both could be a big problem in little packages.
If the ceremony were indoors it would also maybe foil the bad guys planning.
I finally heard a story of why the 17th. "Q" is the 17th letter.
I worry about how many of our troops have been radicalized. I hate having to be concerned if your unit really has your back. Looks like there were maybe 5% bad in the Cap Police.
Last rumor. One of the reasons that they did not call out the guard before hand was that basically with any "provocation" Trump could declare an insurrection and take direct command of them. He could the use them to halt congress, or even order Democrats arrested. He could still be a big problem if a true armed insurrection starts. Who do the troops listen to?
God I will be glad when this SOB is gone for good.

A large part of DC's population is Black or of other non white minority groups and the militias are racists. The rest of the country might need to take them in if they can get away.

(15,512 posts)And if anything happens anywhere, the helicopters swoop in and the guys in dark glasses whisk Joe, Kamala, and the rest to safety. All good, but it would be game over for Biden. It happened during the 2015 Paris attack and that was the end of François Hollande, who was helicoptered out of a soccer stadium where he was watching a match. He had other setbacks, but he became so unpopular that he didn't bother running for a second term the following year.

(48,957 posts)Nooses, pipe bombs, home made napalm, attempted kidnapping, mobs trampling people to death were all part of the last "big party" on Wednesday. People died January 6 because the people in charge did not take it seriously, either ignorantly or on purpose.
I'm sorry you think Officer Sicknick died for "a big party".
The insurrectionists were hunting Nancy Pelosi and any other targets they could find.
Stop. Delete your post. What the hell are you thinking?

(25,224 posts)Is Trump sitting in the Oval hoping that violence breaks out in D.C. or around the country to the extent that he can institute 'martial law' and maintain the presidency?
Is this Trump's Last Stand?
One was to get the Electoral College to help him maintain the presidency.
Two was to incite an insurrection.
I see Three as hope violence breaks out across the country to the level of being able to justify declaring 'martial law'.
Any thoughts about this?

(21,340 posts)Surround the nation's capital, take over the seat of government, assassinate the opposition, and provoke insurrection across the country in each state.
I don't think the attacks in each state will be limited to the capitals. There are hate groups and militias in every state, usually based in rural areas, but with followers in towns and cities.
This is too stratigically planned to be the work only of homemade terrorists. There is the hand of foreign infiltration and undercover foreign agents in this.
I have also heard that there are plans to disrupt communications systems. This is not just terrorism. It is war.

Domestic and/or foreign chaos? And remember, with Trump: cruelty, revenge, and 'getting over' are always the goals...and now they are the goals of the mob.

(21,340 posts)a distraction for something else. There might have been "something else" activities going on in the attack on the Capitol since offices were ransacked and a laptop was stolen. Looking for useful info, maybe.
But I believe the main goal really is to keep Trump installed in the White House as right wing (fascist) dictator. Trump and Republican politicians would benefit. So would Russia and other nations with hard right leaders/dictators.
In the end, I believe that anti fascist supporters of American democracy will win. Quickly I hope, although realistically, it will take time to crush both the insurrection and the fascist movement. At this point, there are not enough supporters of American fascism for it to succeed, but those numbers will grow if it is not defeated and totally crushed right now.
The really bad thing is that they are showing how insurrections can be done through media propaganda and strategic planning. We need a cultural resurgence of commitment to democracy and better informed understanding among our citizens of how the democratic system works.
