Ron Johnson says he might have been concerned for safety had Capitol rioters been BLM and Antifa
Updated 11:15 PM ET, Fri March 12, 2021
Washington (CNN)Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson on Thursday invoked race in explaining his sense of safety during the January 6 Capitol riot, saying that he might have been concerned for his well-being had the protesters been affiliated with Black Lives Matter instead of being a largely White pro-Trump crowd.
"Even though those thousands of people that were marching to the Capitol were trying to pressure people like me to vote the way they wanted me to vote, I knew those were people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law, and so I wasn't concerned," Johnson said during the radio talk show "The Joe Pags Show." He was discussing his recent comments downplaying the danger that day and he has said he "never really felt threatened."
"Now, had the tables been turned -- Joe, this could get me in trouble -- had the tables been turned, and President Trump won the election and those were tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and Antifa protesters, I might have been a little concerned," Johnson continued.
CNN has reached out to Johnson's office for comment.
Some conservatives have sought to draw a false equivalency between the events of January 6 and the unrest that took place over the summer in the wake of several high-profile police killings of Black Americans. Although there were incidents of violence and property destruction last summer, the January riot at the Capitol resulted in five deaths, including a Capitol Police officer, and more than 100 other police officers were injured.................................

(32,992 posts)If the situation were reversed, BLM & Antifa would have let Trump be confirmed in the Electoral College. Because there wasn't Election Fraud. And they already did the 1st time, in 2016. And Federal Troops would have mowed them down with automatic firearms like it was Burma.
Now, if Trump had stolen the election, AND THERE WAS PROVABLE, ACTIONABLE EVIDENCE OF IT (and there no doubt would be because of his belligerence and incompetence), then I'd probably be standing next to them.
Johnson is a dumb Sociopath, and Wisconsin should be ashamed of themselves. 12 years of that clown, and you could have had Feingold.

(54,055 posts)That stupid remark was enough to deny a Republican shoo-in a Senate seat in Missouri, and gave Claire McCaskill another term that she, herself, openly said that she won due to that one stupid uttering by her opponent. The fact that he was an idiot anyway wouldn't have been enough to defeat him.
Post-Trump, even a sitting Senator can say that a killer white mob outside his door didn't worry him, but that he would have been scared by a black mob that didn't even exist. And he STILL doesn't realize why jaws dropped.

(3,340 posts)That is why Biden/Harris and the Democratic party needs to spend the next four years educating the masses, they need to open the GOP supporters minds and eyes.
They do need to show off their accomplishments and to explain how it benefits all Americans, do not stay quiet.

(9,903 posts)... Ron Johnson is correct, here, as far as NOT being concerned for his safety. From what I'm seeing and reading, the Trump Terrorists would not have harmed Johnson. They were mad at Pence, Pelosi, Romney, and prominent Democrats... there are a few others who had no worry, also, like Hawley, Cruz...

(110,913 posts)Does he really think most of those raging wingnuts would have recognized him even if he'd been wearing a sign? Or that most of them would have cared? These were anti democracy riots, they want a dictator, not a Congress of any sort. Johnson, even if they'd recognized him as a wingnut, was still part of he enemy.
If they'd caught him, they'd have beaten him, maybe to death.
BLM and Anti Fascists would have used words. I suppose an encyclopedically ignorant man like Johnson would have found that worse.
