Giuliani in Talks to Testify to House Jan. 6 Panel
Source: NY Times
Rudolph W. Giuliani, who as former President Donald J. Trumps lawyer helped lead the effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election, is in discussions with the House Jan. 6 committee about responding to its questions, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The extent of any assistance that Mr. Giuliani might provide remains unclear and the negotiations could easily fall apart, especially as Mr. Trump continues to publicly rail against the investigation.
But Mr. Giuliani, through his lawyer, has signaled to the committee that he plans to take a less confrontational stance toward its requests than some other members of Mr. Trumps inner circle who are fighting the committees subpoenas or have otherwise refused to cooperate.
Mr. Giulianis discussions with committee officials suggest that he may be seeking to avoid a potentially costly legal fight over a subpoena that was issued to him last month. By engaging with the committee, Mr. Giuliani could also make it more difficult for the House to issue a criminal referral of him to the Justice Department for contempt of Congress if he in the end does not comply with the subpoena.

Of course, the content of the phone calls to lawmakers in an attempt to delay certification after the building was under siege would be of interest. Who are they? Just the fact that he and #FailedCoupGuy were still calling lawmakers, aggressively attempting to overthrow the government AFTER the mob is in the building, that's outrageous. Who in Congress is implicated?

(20,876 posts)We have more than one president at a time now. President Biden ruled no executive privilege and president ruled executive privilege.
Also remember when the SC ruled that the National Archives could release the documents it didn't make the ruling based on no executive privilege, it purposely made the ruling based solely on the fact that trump didn't adequately prove his case.

(14,784 posts)I'm genuinely curious what a very good lawyer, with a very good reputation, and more potential new clients than they could shake a stick at, who therefore can be very choosy, would require as an advance/retainer given Rudy's questionable reliability as a bill-payer and the potential reputational catastrophe that being his lawyer represents...

(9,880 posts)Heres a short paragraph describing Williams portrayal of the behavior of the no-neck monsters in his play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. It seems applicable to Trump because he was a spoiled brat as a child and turned into a psychopath as an adult.
The squalling band of no-necked monsters in Tennessee Williams Cat On A Hot Tin Roof makes their presence known. They screech and howl and run amok in an attempt to get on our very last nerve. And oh what a fine job they do. They evoke a mental get the hell off the stage audience response. They are to Cat what the Save the Soul mission band is to Guys and Dolls: a loud grating interruption of what we came to see. And that is the point. We are to experience those no-neck monsters, as do the primary adult characters. Their mother is a familial terrorist and her children are her weapons. It is a testament to Mr. Williams that his monsters are still horrifying in the 21st century.
