Putin 'survives assassination attempt when he was targeted in his limo'
Source: Metro (UK)
The Russian president is said to have been targeted when a loud bang sounded from the left front wheel before heavy smoke billowed out.
According to the anti-Kremlin Telegram channel General SVR, Putin was travelling in the third car of a five-vehicle convoy on an unknown day.
The post read: The first escort car was blocked by an ambulance and the second escort car drove around without stopping because of the sudden obstacle.

The Kremlin has since arrested multiple people, including several of Putins bodyguards, according to the Telegram channel. /snip

(50,450 posts)However, I have read another post or two by svrgeneral (General SVR) that filled things in and accorded well with reality.
An attempt might be true.

(50,450 posts)... mainstream news like NBC and Newsweek are reporting, though, again, as unverified rumour. So they believe it has sufficient credence they can at least be stenographers.

Mind you I would not be surprised to learn that its true nor would I be surpised if it happens again.
The real question though is how long will it take? After all the longer it takes the more likely whoever does it might also look to take out as many of Putins allies as they can just to be safe.

Once Putin's body guards desert him, he is toast.

(3,473 posts)So maybe like the Praetorian Guard if Putin gets too crazy.... he won't even get the chance to order something like a nuclear strike.

(55,824 posts)Men who are wired like he is.
Unfortunately these are the kind of people who will sell out for a price.
And are self serving to the point they will run to protect themselves if it gets too hot.
I read that Putin pays his inner ring protective guards top dollar.
And gives them lovely living situations.
This can backfire on Putin. The guards then have a lot of assets to protect if public sentiment
arises against Putin.
But yes if there are any loyal Russians, who are normal and love their country,
they may have some choices to make.

I wonder if the Russian generals feel the same way.

(55,824 posts)Up thread I mentioned that I had read Putin pays his inner guard top dollar and gives them
huge homes, cars, etc.
This can backfire as now they have more to lose if the tide turns against Putin.
And the people come after them in anger.
If they flip on Putin, they can keep their stuff.

(18,236 posts)If some of his generals are plotting to take him out as the rumors say, I doubt they'd be this sloppy. Those guys are pros, and they know what will happen to them if they try and fail. (Hint: very, VERY bad things.)
I won't believe a word of this unless and until there is corroboration from a trustworthy source.

(185,725 posts)Im going with - this is old Russia. You blow up a bomb as a signal. Lets not forget that these are Russians so their world domination thing doesnt hold much weight.
Hell Putin probably set it up himself. They screwed up in Ukraine on a truly epic scale. Hi! Tom.

Especially since the Ukraine did not roll over and surrendor like I am willing to wager he was counting on so with the war not going well he needs an exit strategy and this could be used as such.

(764 posts)attempt an assassination. A few more defeats or one more catastrophic one (like the fall of Kherson with tens of thousands of Russian POW's paraded) and perhaps. To be in his circle you have to be a low-life and such don't risk their lives unless not doing so is more dangerous.

Somebody wants to blow that bastard away, it'll be a whole bunch of guys with Kalashnikovs, survivors of his war.

(35,939 posts)1. Casus belli. Any attempt on the vozhd''s life is grounds for oppression of anybody the vozhd' doesn't like.
2. Same day, Zelens'skyi had an accident. This as the Khar'kiv front of the Russia invasion was collapsing.
First thought, "Gee, maybe it was a homocide attempt." Uncharitable, to be sure--accidents happen. Hence the term "accident."
But given my first thought, perhaps others thought, "Gee, claim *our* guy-in-charge was first in line for the homicide attempt."
As for the narrative ... It's ridiculous.
