Fleeing the Scene
Ken Paxton fled when confronted by a process server on Monday, ultimately hopping into a Chevy Tahoe with his wife and speeding away
September 27, 2022
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton used his wife as a getaway driver while fleeing his McKinney, Texas, home in an attempt to avoid being served a subpoena related to an abortion lawsuit.
In a sworn affidavit obtained by the Texas Tribune, process server Ernesto Martin Herrera testified that after arriving at Paxtons home and seeing Paxton through the doorway, Martin Herrera was told by his wife, State Sen. Angela Paxton, that the attorney general was on the phone and to leave his card. He then went back to his car and waited.
A little more than an hour later, Paxton exited the house through the garage. I walked up the driveway approaching Mr. Paxton and called him by his name, testified Martin Herrera, as soon as he saw me and heard me call his name out, he turned around and RAN back inside the house through the same door in the garage.
Around 20 minutes after that, Angela [Paxton] came out and opened the driver side and rear side door behind the driver of the truck. She then got inside the truck and started it, leaving the rear door behind the driver side open, Martin Herrera said. He then witnessed the attorney general run from the door inside the garage towards the rear door behind the driver side. ...........................................................

(9,287 posts)Paxton has bragged about filing 17 lawsuits in 10 months, which he compared to his prior record of suing the Obama administration 27 times. (He most recently sued the Biden administration over vaccine mandates.) He then pivoted to his lawsuit over the remain in Mexico policy and condemned Merrick Garland for comments that, in Paxtons words, threatened every parent in America, by investigating recent incidents of threats against school board members.
He can dish it out but he cant take it. This is a man who wants to control womens reproductive health and will gladly kill and stalk them.

(10,072 posts)He's being sued for:.
"The groups want the court to confirm that the Trigger Ban cannot be enforced by any Defendant
in a manner that violates Plaintiffs rights to freely travel, freely associate, freely speak, and freely support members of their communities through financial assistance, as guaranteed by the United States Constitution and federal law, according to the suit."
"law and other statutes target those reproductive rights groups for activities the groups say conservative state leaders may politically oppose but are still legal."
So, in effect this Texas law that lets anyone sue a pro abortion groups is violating freedom of speech and the right of political speech. The forced birthers can't be sued but the pro abortion groups can. That is like allowing theist to sue atheists if they try to convince someone there is no god.
And Paxton runs away like a little boy.

(9,878 posts)He has judge shopped all over Texas to prevent his case from going to trial. An innocent man would stand trial and wait for the jury to free him. Paxton just buys off judges to keep delays going. He is so corrupt, but Texas Republicans like corruption so long as it benefits them.

(1,346 posts)I don't understand. At some point they're going to catch up to you and you're going to be served, right? What good comes from stalling? If he can't "run out the clock" or something, did he do it just to f with people ("Na-na-na-na-na, you can't catch me"-type of stuff?)?

(26,696 posts)The hearing was for the next day. Avoiding the subpoena keeps him from having to show up (today) and gives his lawyers time to quash the subpoena so that he doesn't have to testify at all.
Which is what happened in court today.

The race looks like a toss-up, but the sampling probably doesn't reflect the new registrant turnout. My money's on Garza, if the appointed Sec of State does his job.
