The White House has just published an official record of the call between the president and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
It says the two leaders discussed the situation in Gaza, with Biden "emphasising that the strikes on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation are unacceptable".
Biden is also said to have made clear the need for Israel to "announce and implement a series of specific, concrete, and measurable steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering, and the safety of aid workers".
The readout adds that Biden told his Israeli counterpart, the US's policy "with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israels immediate action on these steps" - and stressed that an immediate ceasefire "is essential to stabilize and improve the humanitarian situation and protect innocent civilians".
Netanyahu's office is yet to issue its readout of the call.

(83 posts)I'm at the end of my rope on this issue. We arm them, we are complicit. Full stop.
Cut Israel off. It's the right thing to do morally and politically. I live and work fairly close to Dearborn and the deep discontent with Joe among the Arab community is very real and alarming. Some people have lost multiple family members. Relying on "but Trump" to win these voters could be a very big mistake.

(34,741 posts)It is a very risky thing to do politically. There are nearly 6 million Jews in the US, and very few of them are in JVP.
Better to keep talking.

IF the IDF has killed 20,000 civilians in 6 months, that's 40,000 a year divided into the 2.1 million population gives us 52.5 years.
I kinda doubt the war will last that long personally.

(442 posts)The bombing of World Central Kitchen people was done with information given to Israeli military by that humanitarian organisation. They told the Israelis, this is us, we are identifying ourselves SO THAT you WILL KNOW it is us.
It is part of planned genocide. It was no accident, it was mission accomplished. It is their game plan, civilian decimation. It is so much easier killing the defenseless, and even easier when their location and movements are known, or ordered. Then deny everything, and attack with feigned outrage everyone who notices.
Netanyahu is a psychopath. Medical people, journalists, aid workers are targeted. Those are people who are trying to keep people alive, and tell their story. Israel accomplished their goal. Aid has been slowed down, humanitarian aid is being stopped, and discouraged to enter. Mission accomplished.
The United States is complicit.
