Vince McMahon, the former head of WWE, will pay $1.7 million to the Securities and Exchange Commission for failing to disclose two settlements he had with employees while he ran the formerly publicly traded company.
One settlement agreement, signed in 2019, obligated McMahon to pay a former employee $3 million in exchange for the former employee's agreement not to disclose her relationship with McMahon and her release of potential claims against WWE and McMahon, and the second agreement, signed in 2021, obligated McMahon to pay a former WWE independent contractor $7.5 million in exchange for the independent contractor's agreement not to disclose her allegations against McMahon and her release of potential claims against WWE and McMahon, according to the SEC.
These payments were not disclosed and, thus, "WWE overstated its 2018 net income by approximately 8 percent and its 2021 net income by approximately 1.7 percent," according to the SEC.
McMahon agreed to pay a $400,000 civil penalty and reimburse WWE $1,330,915.90, the SEC said.

If the M$M actually did "fair and balanced reporting", then this -
would have been prominently featured at the VERY TOP of the article with the initial story like they do when it comes to Democrats who might have a spouse or family member under criminal review, and not relegated to the very last paragraph.

A $1.7 million dollar settlement? Dude is worth $3 billion.
At any reasonable ROI, the guy gets $1.7 million back in THREE days.
3 days!
This deters nothing.

(10,937 posts)The wife of the former WWE Champion has been in the news this week. She has been nominated as the Secretary Of Education in government by President-elect Donald Trump. This was following his shock win over Kamala Harris this month.
She previously served as the CEO of WWE from 1980 until her resignation in 2009 to make the move into politics. Linda McMahon ran for senate twice, failing to be elected both times. She was made the Administrator of the Small Business Administration during Donald Trumps first stint as president in 2016.
And given that they're separated and it wasn't the reason for the story, I don't see any problem with the way the story was written, other than the fact they left out the separation.

But by golly they were BOTH used for trashing and sliming Hillary Clinton and her campaign as part of the "Butter Emails" nonsense.
THAT is just one example.

(10,937 posts)Weiner and Abedin were both involved in politics, where with the McMahons, one was in entertainment and the other was in politics. And the story was much more about Vince than his wife, so her situation was really minor to the story. That said, their separation, fairly recent news, should have been mentioned. It would have been likely not in the first couple of paragraphs.
Coverage of the Hillary emails was ridiculous because the evidence from an unreliable source (Wikileaks) and that was used as the basis for tons of stories. That never should have happened. The stories should have been vetted better and it seemed that lesson was learned in time to protect Trump this time around.

(145,835 posts)I agree with how it SHOULD be but that is not how they have ever characterized incidents related to Democrats.
I think the most OBVIOUS disparity is what has happened with Hunter Biden, who WAS NOT IN POLITICS but who was used by the media and the GOP to attempt to manufacture some kind of criminality in order to use to justify the impeachment of a sitting President - Joe Biden.
Hunter had never run for office, never worked for any government entity, and certainly wasn't working in his father's administration. His brother Beau DID work in government and was AG for the state of Delaware (but has since passed away).
You also have more Biden family members like his youngest daughter Ashley, whose diary was found, stolen instead of returned, and sent to Project Veritas to become a veritable tabloid-style media fest. Even Biden's brother James, another NON-POLITICAL individual, was dragged into the media mess.
