Trump's legal fight with X is officially over

Source: Axios

President Trump voluntarily dismissed his legal battle with X regarding the social media platform's permanent suspension of the president's account following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

Why it matters: X, which Elon Musk primarily owns but was then the publicly-traded Twitter, banned Trump for what it described at the time as a "risk of further incitement of violence."

  • Shortly after his recent inauguration, Trump pardoned about 1,500 Jan. 6 criminals and defendants, including those convicted of assaulting police officers.

  • Driving the news: Each side in the X legal battle agreed to "bear its own costs and fees" in a three-page motion to dismiss filed in the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and dated Friday.

  • There were few other specifics detailed in the agreement.

  • Catch up quick: Trump moved his social media activity over to his company Truth Social in February 2022.

  • Musk reinstated Trump's account on X after the billionaire assumed control of the platform in November 2022.
