Sen. Wyden addresses packed town hall in Hillsboro as political uncertainty brews in D.C.
Source: The Oregonian
Hundreds of people, some bearing signs, lined up along the snowy block in front of Hillsboros J.W. Poynter Middle School at noon Saturday.
And many of them were about to find out that their efforts to get in were in vain. At least 1,200 people had already maxed out the school gyms fire safety capacity, and staff outside the school doors were met with yells of protest when they announced they would have to turn people away.
But Saturdays turnout wasnt for a basketball game or other school event. It was for an annual town hall hosted by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. It was a stark change from August, at his last town hall in the county, which fewer than 200 people attended.
In other years, people may have asked the senator about a range of issues impacting Oregon. But Saturdays town hall was dominated by a single topic: the newly sworn-in administration of President Donald J. Trump.

Here's some Democratic outreach, for those of us wondering where it went. BTW, I live in Hillsboro and this article was the first I'd heard of the event, article says it's not usually this well-attended which may be part of the reason. Anyway, it seems like the population is stirring towards widespread outrage and might be ready to activate fairly soon. By the way, this happened during recent snowfall, always a real damper on public activities around here.

Note the incredibly successful town hall by Wyden and suggest they hold one in their home district.

(3,144 posts)A lot of them, reportedly, dislike what's going on, so maybe they also could grow a spine with some pressure.

(3,144 posts)I'll take it under advisement. Maybe the Dems like the situation too, then. After all, many of them will profit from it.
At some point you have to presume someone is telling the truth.

Good job Senator Wyden.

(10,776 posts)He'd come back to the state to do two or three town halls, and he stopped at mine to speak to about 50 people, and answer questions. I don't remember much of it, except that he was pretty generous with his time, and if there was something he couldn't answer or that someone needed to look into he had his staff take notes to do some legwork and follow-up, and to keep him informed. It was pretty interesting to see an actual working politician work. If they were all like that, things might be a little better.
