Erskine Bowles weighing bid for NC governor

RALEIGH, N.C. — Erskine Bowles served as chief of staff in Bill Clinton's White House, led the prestigious University of North Carolina system and headed a bipartisan commission that recommended tough choices to reduce the U.S. deficit.

The Charlotte investment banker is being asked to consider public service again — this time by fellow Democrats in his home state who want him to run for governor after incumbent Beverly Perdue shocked many last week by announcing she wouldn't seek re-election.

While two Democrats have already gotten in, other notables are waiting for Bowles to decide in a race that could have implications for a presidential swing state that is hosting the Democratic convention.

He was the Democratic nominee both times, but he lost first to Liddy Dole in 2002 and then to Richard Burr in 2004. He has already proven he has difficulty winning elected office statewide, so I am unsure why the Democratic Party of North Carolina would give him another chance.

I wish him lots of luck if the Governorship is what he chooses to pursue (because we NEED that seat to stay in Democratic hands), but I am doubtful of his chances.

The man is completely unprincipled, except perhaps that he is resolute about protecting the interests of the 1%.

Aided and abetted the upcoming theft of our Social Security funds as the 'balance' to Alan Simpson on Obama's deficit commission. The commission failed to reach consensus, but still has provided cover for establishment reporters to discuss the 'need' for entitlement 'reform' (i.e.- cuts).

Fuck him.

is Attorney General Roy Cooper.

But it wouldn't even run for Senate last time even though it would have guaranteed the Dems victory

not so much appeal. Richard Moore could beat him, if he chooses to run.

one lackluster race if it's gonna be Bowles/McCrory. Two middle-aged white guys trying to out-vanilla each other.

We'd both vote for him. He's also polling the best among potential Democratic candidates.
