Top EU court ruling backs gay African asylum bids
The EU's top court has ruled that homosexuals from Sierra Leone, Uganda and Senegal who fear imprisonment in their home country have grounds for asylum in EU member states.
The Netherlands had asked the court for advice about three gay citizens of those countries seeking asylum.
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) says asylum can be granted in cases where people are actually jailed for homosexuality in their home country.

Good for the EU! We should be doing the same here, even though in a majority of states GLBTs do not have equal rights. For that we as a nation should be ashamed.

(16,820 posts)GLBTs are in danger of being beaten, imprisoned, and killed in many countries around the world. Thanks to the EU for approving asylum for these refugees. I hope the U.S. will do the same. A lot of assholes here would bitch about it if we do it, but we can't ignore people whose lives are in danger.
