Newark Star Ledger: Surrender democracy to Trump or we'll never get our tunnel
Back story: NJ *had* the federal funds less than five years ago, literally. But our then-governor, Chris Christie, stopped the project as soon as shovels were in the ground. Canceled construction of the needed tunnel. And kept the federal money and spent it on other projects that he wanted.
So, NJ (Blue State) had to return to Congress for the money. Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump responded "Huh uh." Fast forward to last week with "Infrastructure Week". We all know how that played out. And here's the Star Ledger, NJ's premier paper, telling us to play ball with Trump. Stop the investigations. Kiss his ass with Chapstick. Do what has to be done. I didn't care for this Opinion piece myself. https://www.nj.com/opinion/2019/05/trump-hissy-fit-spells-doom-for-our-tunnel-editorial.html

2. The article complains about Trump, not the Democrats or Congress.
And here's the Star Ledger, NJ's premier paper, telling us to play ball with Trump. Stop the investigations. Kiss his ass with Chapstick. Do what has to be done. The article does not state that anyone should cooperate with Trump. The article blames him for the problems. This is the DU member formerly known as earthshine.

3. It's not necessarily explicitly stated.
"Congress should stop acting like Congress – and if it doesn’t, he fumes, the price will be our tunnel. As he stomps his feet, orders aides to vouch for his exceptional calmness and tweets about “Crazy Nancy,” the clock is ticking."
It's the inference made in the last paragraph, esp. with the clock ticking. Implies that Trump isn't going to change, so Congress better do what it has to. |

4. You have no basis on which to draw that inference!
This article states the problems, but does not draw any conclusions. There is no thesis except that which is stated in the title.
"Trump ‘hissy fit’ spells doom for our tunnel" It is implied that Trump is the problem and we must get rid of him to solve anything. I'm sure the authors know, whether or not there is impeachment, NJ is not getting the funds from Trump and the Republicans. This is the DU member formerly known as earthshine.

5. I have been to this tiny station
This place is nothing but a HUGE "truck stop." All I saw was clutter and bad roads. You drive 3 miles and pay a toll. The whole place can be flushed.......
