Republicans don't want you to have the right to vote

https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2021/07/its-true-republicans-do-not-want-you-to.html

Thanks to the Democrats from the Texas House, at least one state won't be able to pass restrictive voting laws.

1. That's quite right: they sure don't.

However, I don't think the actions of the Democrats from the Texas Senate will be able to stop the Texan republicans for long.

We shall see.

3. There are some provisions in the Texas Constitution

It's a little different there, constitutionally. There are some quirks in the state constitution that date back to its heritage as having been a flamboyant but short-lived Republic, that play to the Democrats' advantage as a minority.

For one thing, the governor's powers are extremely limited. There's some question as to whether he has the constitutional authority to actually arrest the legislators once the special session is over and they come back to Texas. He could take a shot at calling another legislative session but their passion right now is to get redistricting passed, which caused the Democrats to pull this same stunt back in 2009. As a result of all of that, they need at least a third of the Democrats to go along with their plan so if they keep pressing this, they will likely have to defer the redistricting to the courts like they did in 2009.

2. It passed the Texas Senate

It's Democrats in the Texas House who are trying to block it.

But their chances of success are incredibly slim in TX. It was comparatively easy to keep it from passing during the last session because there was a clock running... but republicans can pass it any time in the next several months.
