Will US Turn Away From Fascism and Abandon This GOP Death Cult Before It's Too Late?

The current Republican Party is unsustainable: the public is both exhausted & increasingly sickened by Republicans who appear to be devoid of any principles whatsoever.

THOM HARTMANN

February 8, 2022

While Republican successes in blocking legislation, judges and even presidential nominations may seem like the Party is on a roll, the reality is that the GOP is in the midst of an existential crisis as severe as any party has seen since the Whigs died out in the early 19th century.

Billionaire Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal is now openly calling them out in an editorial from the publication's editorial board itself:

"The United States desperately needs a Republican Party that is a sane alternative to the ruling Democrats who have lurched to the coercive left. On that score, Americans should welcome Mike Pence's stand Friday for constitutional principle on elections no matter its political cost."

While Murdoch's Fox "News" will continue to play the grievance game and hang onto Trump and his rube followers as long as they can to maintain audience share, the Journal's management knows that their more educated and higher-income readers have already seen through Trump's grifts.

This represents a huge crisis for Republican elected officials and the Party's leadership, particularly those who continue to play the Trump-humper card. When the money leaves, the Party is dead.

This editorial may have some impact on them, but I doubt it. Corporate leaders and their stockholders are the ones keeping the Republican wingnuts alive with their campaign donations. Many said they would no longer donate after January 6, then started donating again when the spotlight was off them. And then there are all the dark money crowd like the Kochs, who love what Republicans are doing because they want the federal government destroyed, along with all the religious nuts who think they finally have the power to turn the US into a Christian theocracy with the help of their buddies on the Supreme Court. And who knows how much foreign money gets funneled to Republicans by leaders like Putin who want to see the US destabilized.

Did you notice that Murdock does nothing to clean his own house over at Fox News? When he boots his current talking heads there, then I'll give him and his Wall St Journal some respect. Meanwhile back at the Fox News ranch, it's still lie lie lie.

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and the economy that rose to prominence in early 20th-century Europe. ... Fascists believe that liberal democracy is obsolete. Wiki

One area we must push back hard on is the police. Many police have lost touch with the reality of our Democracy. Our civil rights mean something and the police must respect them. Fascist policing is the real start of a fascist state.

I can feel the tide turning. We will also, however, have to sue the fuck out of these new voting-restriction rules.

Maybe we can impeach a SCOTUS judge or two for bad behavior. Or.... increase the size of the SCOTUS.

Or, legalize weed nationwide so we won't fret so much.

Many are fine with a fascist white supremacy minority rule.

Others are in denial and cannot face reality.

The rest are worried, but don't know what to do.

Trump supporters have nothing but rhetoric and Fox Noise "talking point" conspiracy garbage. None can argue with any substance. Plus the insane denial:
Of all that xenophobia and dog-whistle racism, or they're just stinking Nazis.
Of all the hypocritical improprieties they either never heard of by being Fox Noise and RWNJ-media faithful and mist ironic of all: in Jeebus holy name.
Of dismissing TFG's refusal to condemn white supremacy and white supremacists by saying "that's just Trump". Truly delusional or deep inside, they're Nazis.
The "freedom" shouting ilk, as soon as given power, starts listing whose freedom to restrict. In the pandemic, the anti-vaxx dipshits restricted everyone white their circus clown Carlson rakes in the cash. Then they call the college educated "indoctrinated" 🙄
Trumpers can claim no loyalty to American values as long as they support the sort of reprehensible beliefs we defeated 80 years ago. Their preachers are talking starvation concentration camps for people like me.
All it takes for fascists to rule is for good Americans to do nothing.
