Sen. Lindsey Graham wants to militarize schools. Well, jeez. Why not the whole country?
Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina wants to turn Americas schools into battlefields to protect children and teachers from shooters.
Grahams idea is to mobilize retired and former military service members to go through school security training and become available to school districts throughout the country.
OK. Militarizing classrooms is one way of trying to protect students and teachers.
But if thats the only proposal coming from Republicans to deal with mass shootings and gun violence, then they better be ready to militarize the entire country.

(16,254 posts)It's the Republicans that are into militias, mutinies and coups. If they were so eager to do battle on Jan. 6th, assign them to a schoolhouse and let them stand guard.
I'd almost guarantee you that when they got one look at some nut coming at them with an AR15 or their ilk, they'd wet their pants as they passed out on the playground from fright. Lindsey, I'm sure you can understand that!

(21,859 posts)He's just mouthing off as the dumb s**t politician that he is, w/o thought to how to implement the plan, pay for the plan, etc., let alone allowing in yet even more guns, into the hands of yet even more people by the 10s of thousands, perhaps more, plus the danger of the kids accidently getting into the guns (or heaven forbid, deliberately).
I thought that their motto was 'don't politicize the issue' and here they are already, running their mouths off.

(12,761 posts)The need to militarize schools is simply more evidence of the problem, but is not a solution to the problem.
And the problem isn't just at schools. It's at grocery stores, churches, bookstores, parks; the list goes on.
Fix the damn problem.

So what good is a guard against an AR15?
Much cheaper and more effective to ban the damned assault weapons in the first place.
This Republican preference for militarizing schools and society in general makes me wonder if there is more behind the Republican plans than just the money to be gained from weapons sales for the people who fund Republican candidates.
We have seen what Republicans were willing to do on J6. Do they want schools and other parts of society militarized to make future coups easier? Suppose your child is in a school with armed guards when your local voting precinct has had its results overturned or tampered with by Republican poll workers and lawyers? You want to protest or join a demonstration.
To "protect" children from possible violence in the community, they are kept in school, in lockdown with armed guards. Do you participate in a protest when threatened with being cut off from your children? Or to get your children back home, do you accept the polling site coup?
