Russia's Counterpart To NATO Is On The Brink Of Collapse
--snip--
It is thus difficult not to accept the conclusions offered by two independent Russian analysts, Anatoly Nesmiyan, who blogs under the screen name El Murid, and Filin, who was cited earlier. Nesmiyan says that the situation Moscow finds itself in now with the CSTO in Central Asia and the South Caucasus very much recalls [a similar situation] before the demise of the USSR, with Russia pulling out and others moving in, however unwelcome that may be for the Kremlin (Bbc.com/Russian, October 10). And Filin, even more pessimistically, suggests that, today, as the CSTO situation demonstrates, Russia does not have too many friends, even fewer partners and almost no remaining allies (Versia.ru, October 17).

(11,992 posts)CSTO, at least some favor Ukraine and know this is actually a unprovoked attack on them.
Russia attacking a independent country brings total fear for other countries in the region. Putin is definitely a madman.

(9,063 posts)of Russia taking liberties with the territorial integrity of its neighbors. What is notable is how open their defiance of Russia has become lately. They all realize how weak Russia has become militarily, politically, and economically, and how ineffective, if not downright detrimental to their interests, their alliance with Russia may become soon. With the exception of Belarus, it is easy to see how these former Soviet republics and even Russia's current autonomous regions in Central Asia and the Far East may find China and Turkey as more reliable and beneficial allies.
