Severe flooding is being reported in Saudi Arabia, especially in the kingdoms capital of Riyadh, with the government closing schools and urging people to stay indoors amid heavy rain. Flooding is rare in the country dominated by the Arabian Desert.
Witnesses in Riaydh, which is also the countrys largest city, are reporting flooded streets and shops. Pictures posted on Twitter show cars drowning in rainwater.

most people in the USA have some awareness of how dangerous flooded roads can be, and the power of water.
Hopefully the sand will absorb the water quickly?????

Hopefully this doesn't get much worse, though, in any case. Desert floods can be QUITE damaging when they occur.

I watched a documentary about the flooding in Calgary Alberta the other evening, a meteorologist stated that with increased temperatures they are now seeing rain systems that can hold up to 15 times as much water as the daily flow of the Mississippi
