tRump has done many times worse what Nixon ever thought about doing. And some Rethugs had a conscience back then.

....it was the most stunning thing many of us had seen in our lifetimes. And probably the most solemn vote in history, too.

Unlike today when they'd all vote "no". I forget where I heard it a few days ago, but someone said that the Founding Fathers foresaw someone like Trump, which is why they put in a way to remove a rogue president. What they unfortunately did NOT foresee was a complacent Congress.

From what I understand, this vote is what did it for Nixon. Before it was taken, some of the Republicans came to him and simply told him they couldn't support him anymore. This was the nail in the coffin.

Did they regret it? They knew (then) that they were on the wrong side of history. I wonder what they thought

Our local radio station played "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". You could hear people singing along with it.
