I have to say, that I was a young adult, just a month shy of my 21st birthday when Apollo 11 happened. I never once thought there was a chance they wouldn't return, and honestly did get why so many people back then seemed to have thought that. Maybe I was incredibly ignorant, maybe it was because I'd grown up reading science fiction and so travelling to the Moon felt normal.

I will say that to this day I'm blown away by the fact we watched all if it happen live.

none ever said a thing that a fair share of humanity would listen and watch it while it happened.

If you haven't seen it, recommend the film The Dish. It's about the Parks Radio Telescope in Australia that broadcast the live TV coverage of the landing and walk. We almost didn't get to see it.

not entirely sure. I was working that day, got off at 3pm and went straight home and turned on my black and white TV and watched until I fell asleep.

Actually, seeing that they landed at 3:17pm EST, (although we would have been on DST, so I'm not sure if it should be listed as an hour earlier) I would not yet have been home either way. I had to be at work at 6:30 the next morning, and I was very grateful they advanced the moonwalk time by a couple of hours, otherwise I would not have been able to watch any of it. I did have to give up part way through and go to bed.

For all of those who claim the Moon landing was faked, the question to ask them is: Why would they go to the trouble of faking the hundreds of hours of the entire mission? We got to listen or watch much of it live. If there had simply been a switch to a phony landing and then a later faked Moon walk, without the many hours from the launch to the splashdown also broadcast, they might have a point. But nope. Every minute was on the record.

Secondary question: If the original Moon landing was faked, why fake five more landings? Why fake Apollo 13?

And I have seen The Dish. It's wonderful. And of course I'm sure you can notice any time you now watch the tape of the walk, you can see the slight glitch of the handover to the Australian satellite. It's a small part of the big story that everyone should know.

the most astounding endeavor in the history of the world… and I was privileged to experience it.
