The World's Greatest Tabla Player!! Zakir Hussain

Zakir Hussain - Grand Master Tabla Player, world renowned, and a really nice man.
He used to travel all over the world playing for people. He is now semi-retired.

The vocalizing of the drumming rhythms is how a person is taught to play the tabla.
This jam is called, Horse Running.

I just thought we could all use an impressive treat.
I was fortunate to have seen him perform once. I will never forget it!

Heir to the great legacy of his father, Alla Rakha.

He was featured in one of the SFJazz "Fridays at Five" series recently, playing with bassist Dave Holland and saxophonist Chris Potter. Magical music by a trio of true masters.

When I saw him perform in an auditorium with several thousand people, it was a jazz-fusion. Eastern and Western instruments were played. He would periodically explain, in English, what the drum rhythms were "saying". It was amazing!
