Florida Republicans want to criminalize filming cops.

The only surprise is that it took them so long to vomit out this legislative proposal. The problem wasn't Derek Chauvin murdering George Floyd in broad daylight, the problem was the video...

Meanwhile, Florida is a two-party consent state, so there is already a legal foundation for such legislation. Earlier this year, a Boynton Beach woman was arrested for filming a cop arresting her son. Her arrest was supported by the courts.

This kind of legislation goes through a process and each step of that process is an opportunity to create outrage, gain media coverage, and rile up the base. The first step is proposing the bill. The proposed bill may be unrelated to the bill that is actually filed at the beginning of the legislative session. The bill may then be amended in multiple committees. Then the bill is signed. DeSantis can intervene or remain silent at any point according to what he perceives as his political advantage. None of the Republicans care if the bill gets tossed by the courts.

If you don't have the right to film the cops, the cops don't have a right to film you.

is thare are apps for phones that immediately send all video to the cloud or even the ACLU. So arresting you and taking your phone will not help one bit to keep the video from the public. Fucking Neandertals think it's 1963 and we all have Kodak cameras.

are fucked up veterans from Bush’s personal war with Iraq. Those dudes are young and brainwashed from having Fox on every tv on military bases. I went to the Fort Lewis Washington army base visitors center one time back then and they had fucking Fox News on the boob tube in the waiting area. I knew then we were fucked.
