...I could drink at work - like the day I spent over an hour with a teenage girl, and her mom (my last patient of the afternoon. We are supposed to be done around 5. As we walked out of the exam room at 6:15 PM, the mom looked at me and said, "You're working really late."

to ease their suffering.

First day of PA School: they asked the student body "Why do you want to be a Physician Assistant?"

My answer was probably ridiculously paradoxical: "Because I can't stand to see people suffering."

They gave me the tools to heal suffering. I'm trying to use them wisely...

Yeah, that would make for a hard week. Especially if you have a hard time compartmentalising. Sounds like your heart is in the right place though. At least you can take comfort in the fact that you're helping people, changing lives, and trying to make a better planet by using the skills you were blessed with. Although, I'm sure those noble thoughts get lost in the minutiae of day to day, it's something you should try to come back to when you have bad days.

Tipping my bottle to your kind heart brother. (Jameson tonite!)
Slainte my friend.

Was that a DU first? Can't have been. But a first for me anyway. And really, isn't that all that matters?

I'll never forget, after my very first post on DU (in GD, the Lounge didn't exist yet), someone offered to 'buy me a drink' to welcome me.

That was my first experience with cyber-hospitality.

Watching the clock count down, shooting at the same time with someone half a continent away!

I'm sorry that you had such a rough week at work. The new manager at your clinic sounds like an ogre which is something that I had to deal with during my years of office work. Just keep in mind that employees usually survive a lot longer than managers at most places so there is always hope.

I broke out the vodka and passion fruit juice so I'll have to catch up on the buzz.

I told him that I've lost count of how many clinic managers I've outlasted...
