Some small packages of the overly priced brands even more overly priced now, so I guess I can't say there is NONE to be had, but...

A friend of mine works at a Costco. He said some hoarders brought back large packages of paper and the manager refused to take them back. My guess is their attempt to sell it on Ebay did not work out.

In all seriousness, when I went to the supermarket the other day, there was a ton of pork on sale. Complete tenderloins that were three feet long for about $15! Huge sides of pork, sliced for under $20. All of it was priced at $1.50 a pound. I picked up two packages and froze them. We'll have enough pork until the Fourth of July!

However, the store still doesn't have a good supply of paper products. Fortunately we stocked up before the trouble started so we're okay for now.

Everything else is in good supply here in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania. Gas is $2.19 a gallon! We're keeping our cars fully fueled and my portable generator has a full tank, too. We've got about 20 gallons of extra gas in jerry jugs.

We've been self-isolating for more than a month now and we feel very fortunate to be safe, sound, healthy and well-stocked. We feel great empathy for those who aren't as fortunate as we are and we've made contributions to our local aid services. These are very strange and disturbing times.

We have a "just in time" distribution, and from what I gather, the rural areas, (where some packing plants are located) are next in line for major impacts from the spread of COVID-19. In fact, the mortality rate may be even more devastating to those communities as well as farmers and pickers, (especially undocumented workers who get no help or support in this).

We are looking at shortages and supply chain disruptions for many items in the coming months as well as potentially skyrocketing prices. We will be asking, are there any ____ left? There will be empty shelves and coolers. The price hikes could reach some shocking levels as per supply and demand.

Even while their stomachs growl: "I'm HUNGRY!"

In the Tao, it is said that a good ruler should keep the people's heads empty, (check) and their stomachs full. Now, that is from a time long ago in ancient China, and an empty head actually can have more than one meaning, but when people feel a void in their guts and start to go lean and their children cry for food...

Empty heads for the base won't go over well for long when that goes with an empty belly.

It will be interesting to see how that plays out with the base. For the next 18-months or so, Make America Great and Keep America Great are not going to age well at all. They really don't apply anymore. You don't say that during a Great Depression, because it would be mocking the millions of destitute people outright.

Depending on how cranky I am, I may start sizing up the selection of 'long pork' before then.

But shortages of many things will be a part of this situation, and people will get angry. With luck, they will correctly blame Trump and the GOP.
