You Can Leave Your Mask On: Nudists Wear Just One Item in Covid Times

Empire Haven, a rustic vacation spot in the lush rolling hills of the Finger Lakes region of New York, has an enticing slogan: “Get away from it all. Your worries. Your cares...even your clothes.”

This year, the nudist resort is asking visitors to pack one item: a face mask.

Many clothing-optional destinations have flashed the news this summer that masks are not optional, causing some self examination from Jacumba, Calif., to the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort in Kissimmee, Fla.

(snip)

The Solair Recreation League, an 86-year-old clothing-free resort and campground on 360 woodsy acres in northeastern Connecticut, pared down its social calendar. The “Red, White & Nude Parade” of decorated golf carts is still set to go on over the Fourth of July weekend, but a naked skeet shooting event was nixed because participants would be standing shoulder to shoulder. Nude shuffleboard is still allowed but a monitor sanitizes the discs between pushes. And the Naked Turtle Cafe is still only offering takeout.

Solair’s rule directing guests to wear masks in common areas when they can’t socially distance has chapped the occasional hide.

One problem: mask lines.

“The ‘no tan lines’ is one of the things that we sort of pride ourselves on,” says Ronna Krozy, a retired associate nursing professor and Solair regular.

"One problem: mask lines."
Facial tan lines will be the new status symbol of high IQ, available to the clothed and unclothed alike.

“The ‘no tan lines’ is one of the things that we sort of pride ourselves on”

We all suffer from identifying too much with any of our personna-wrappers, the chosen (like clothes, tattoos, piercings, nudity) or the given (like gender, skin color, family, body, nudity).
Confusing the 'self' with the world-whorl of concentric wrappers causes confusion and discomfort when the changeable wrapper is unwound, or unmasked so to speak.

Me (can't make me), mine (you can't have it) and my (rules) reference the changing self (based on desires).
The childhood toys that were mine are no longer of interest to me.
We are constantly re-wrapping in new desires, knowledge, activities; measures of our self-value change.

"I" and "US" are names for the unchanging-constant-witness-self, even when fully unwrapped (free of false self-identity).
The constant self was in the now long gone baby wrapper, that same self persists in the growing-changing-deteriorating body-mind-sensation wrapper. In dream sleep that self may wrap in the role, fame and glow of being a fabulous rapper.

That Self is now wearing a COVID-19 overcoat and only two colors are available "self" and "selfish"

(And that ladies and gentlemen is how we keep our attention on the eyes and not our normally masked lower differences)
