I have an idea that might make some handy person some money

build some human sized portable, easily broken down boxes out of lexan. put in a bank-teller's speaker, maybe some of those in-the-wall gloves like they use in super dangerous labs. put a couple plastic lawn chairs in there, provide some kind of filtered ventilation. it could all be easily disinfected in about 5 minutes.

what for?

to go in the lobbies of hospitals and nursing homes so that the patients who don't have ground floor windows to see visitors, and who can't really manage cell phones for video chats can see and hear visitors!!!!

I can't express how frustrating for everybody today's visit with our old family friend was. we were outdoors in 100 degree heat trying to see into a reflective coated window that was basically just a mirror. poor Jerry is trying to recover from a pretty bad stroke, he can't use his dominate hand and the other one shakes pretty bad. he has never had a real cell phone so he tries to hold it like a walkie talkie while it is on speaker. his speach is pretty garbled already without shitty feedback from cell phones, and there are cars and trucks running right behind us so he probably hears all that noise too.

it has been 6 months into this thing, they need to figure out a better way for family to visit these poor old people!

The thought is worthy. A full HAZMAT suit would probably work. Rent them out. Hoyt Jul 2020 #1

I agree 6 months is a long time, especially for folks who might not have decades.

Hope your friend gets better, and conditions improve l

you would think they would have figured out some workarounds like retail has...

Poor Jerry's been in since the end of May. He is such a story teller, he needs visitors or he is going to give up.

have been about the older folks.

I have a coworker that is driving 8 hours to see her mom for 15 minutes. They’ll be able to sit on a porch 12’ away, but can’t touch. For 15 minutes.

Montana has a rather horrific situation at an old folks facility. Montana opened up and apparently allowed visitors. Last I checked, pretty much every resident caught covid. Sadly most of them probably won’t survive.

It’s a helluva an illness, and the older folks get the short end of the stick. Seeing him through a window and talking on a cell phone probably sucked but at least he’s not going to get sick from it.
