Probably a bad idea, but I booked a flight to Louisiana.

For August 27. I'm 75 and shouldn't risk it, but my mother is 97 and I have missed several of my usual trips down from Boston to see her. She uses Facebook, so we do communicate, but since a stroke last year she can't really hold a phone conversation.

My husband needs to go see his 100-year-old mother in Alberta, too. Maybe soon.

2. my sister in law..over 60 and a cancer survivor flew a full plane from Seattle to Oklahoma..

...to be with her daughter during child birth and to care for the 2 yr old. She didnt make this decision lightly. She had a center seat and she took her aged chihuahua in its carry on. I had another friend who is a trump*er just fly to vegas for 5 days. I think my sister in law made a better and more informed decision.

Can you get your mom an Echo Show while you are there and show her how to use it? Of course you need one as well..

Have fun and give her a hug from all of us

nothing like Louisiana in the middle of summer :/

5. I agree, your SIL made a better decision. She was needed, and she went.

I gave Mom a tablet last year but she doesn't use it; she thinks it costs extra to use WiFi (which she didn't know she had). She enjoys sitting at her old desktop and looking at FB pictures.

Thanks, I'll hug her after I disinfect myself as much as I can. 🙂

4. You'll be glad you went.

And she'll be so thrilled. Huge mood booster for both of you!

7. Go and be with your Mother because you will regret if she passes without you ever seeing

Her again. Mask up, glove up and hug her!

8. Yes, that is my fear. This has happened to so many people.

I plan to be very very careful.

13. My parents passed away years ago and I was with them both the last day they were alive

I feel no guilt and was glad to say goodbye.

My husband wants to visit his 89 year mother in Arizona. We are going for Christmas no matter what and will wear masks inside and take our temperatures all the time when we’re there!

Enjoy your visit !

9. Sometimes you have to take the risk

if the trip is important enough. And visiting an elderly parent is definitely important. You never know if it might be your last chance, and you'd regret not having gone.

We usually try to visit my mother (94) every 6-8 weeks (it's only a 3 1/2-hour drive), but we had not done so for five months since the pandemic. I could tell she was getting depressed, feeling she might not see us again. So we got in the car and made the trip. It was so well worth it. And then, to be cautious, we self-quarantined for 14 days. (She has caregivers in the house, and although they were masked, one never likes to take chances.)

I think you're doing the right thing: just stay as safe as possible.

10. I'm glad you're in driving distance, I'm sure she was happy to see you.

It's been eight months since I was down there, so I decided to risk it and be careful and hope for the best.

11. Remember to protect your eyes

while on the flights as well as wearing a mask.

I think this is definitely a well considered and good decision... savor that hug!

12. My eyes? I need this advice. Should I wear sunglasses?

Goggles? I will if they let me.

so that may be a safe bet for you.

16. That's what I booked; I had read that too.

I think a lot will depend on the health of my fellow fliers.

20. Please make sure you wear protective eye googles in the plane and airport.

I saw an interview with an immunologist who took every precaution on the airplane except eye googles and he is convinced that's how he contracted COVID. They are quite inexpensive and will be worth the peace of mind.

Have a great trip!
