The answer is not "adjust the taskbar settings to auto-hide the taskbar," because we've had it set that way for months, and the one thing it absolutely doesn't do is hide the taskbar.
I've read bullshit solutions like "click the search box and then click elsewhere on the screen." That works until you get the mouse anywhere in the greater vicinity of the bottom of the screen, at which point the taskbar reappears and stays there.
Also, to the clever soul who will suggest that I purchase some overpriced Apple product, I pre-emptively state that I have an iPad, and I hate almost everything about it.
Other suggestions?

(13,043 posts)I would take it to the internets.
Maybe something in the registry or a policy thing.
Good luck.

(10,667 posts)Put your mouse over the taskbar where there AREN'T any application symbols
Right click and then select "Taskbar settings".
Turn on "Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode"

Also, some apps in full screen mode hide it all by themselves.
BTW, I set the taskbar to be on the side of the screen where it steals less space.
Maybe some other setting is screwing up the hide setting?

whenever I put Firefox in the full screen mode (That's a Firefox setting.) it automatically hides the taskbar. I don't know if that helps but it works for me!

(9,631 posts)Go to Task Manager click on the Processes tab, find, right click, then end the explorer.exe process. Go back to top of window, click on file and select new process and reopen explorer.exe. You might have to type it in the window that appears, to reopen it.
Again, I don't know if this works on Win 10 but it does on 7.
Windows is so weird.

Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe) is a program manager process that provides the graphical interface you use to interact with most of Windowsthe Start menu, taskbar, notification area, and File Explorer. Occasionally, any of these pieces that make up the Windows graphical shell can start acting strangely or even hang.
