Wow I think I must have played the grooves off my vinyl copy!

Sitting on my bed in my bedroom ... following along the lyrics from the album liner ....

For such a long time. I mean, she’s been writing songs since she was a teenager. Most of the hit songs she wrote, most people don’t even know she wrote. Such a gifted artist. “Tapestry” routinely makes the lists of the greatest albums ever, and with good reason.

“Will You Love Me Tomorrow"
“One Fine Day”
“Take Good Care of My Baby”
“Some Kind of Wonderful”
“Up on the Roof”
“I'm Into Something Good”
“Don't Bring Me Down” (the Animals song, not the Beatles song)
“Pleasant Valley Sunday”

Just a handful of the hits written by Goffin-King. If you made a playlist of all their compositions that charted, it would be about five hours long.

I was just out running a couple of errands and heard "It's Too Late" on the radio. I still have this piano songbook and once knew this entire album by heart. (Playing more piano is on my list of post-retirement activities.)

The 20's are going to be full of 50th anniversaries for me -- I grew up during the 70's so most of my formative experiences happened then. 50 years seems very strange since my brain still says I'm only about 20 or so.

the 70's began so my primary childhood and early adolescent memories are from that decade, and its music is my favorite (something I get endlessly teased about!) For most 70's songs I can tell you what year they were hits and, for some, even the approximate months. Drives hubby nuts, lol. I associate so many of them with memories. For instance, Foreigner's Cold as Ice was the summer of '77 and I was on vacation in the Black Hills of SD with the family (we were also at Mt. Rushmore cafeteria when we heard of Elvis Presley's death). I'm gonna be demanding a 70's radio channel in my nursing home!

Regarding "It's Too Late", I remember riding with my mom when that was on one time, after I'd heard it a lot, and asking mom very seriously "what are they late for? Why are they late?" It's still one of mom's favorite memories of my childhood.

bring back some memories! My mother LOVED LOVED LOVED Carole King (understandably so!) and would turn up her songs on the car radio whenever they came on. She especially loved this one, she's always been super sentimental and emotional (which I've inherited in droves!). Can't believe it's been that long, I'll have to call her up now and tell her.
