The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsDo you personally know any "contrarians"; people who consistently oppose whatever
others favor and support whatever everyone else condemns?
It doesn't seem to involve any real thought and they don't seem to realize that, in a perverse way, they allow "everyone else" to determine their likes and dislikes.
Odd ducks.

And then she'll say something good about the Seahawks and start rooting for then and then I will too....Once again. I make it a game.

(9,958 posts)is listening to my older brother who is a conspiracy theorist. When her husband was alive he was a very logical sensible person, she has always been a follower. She never researches anything and takes our brother's word on everything. She is at risk of losing her relationship with her grandchildren because of it, I no longer speak to either of them, but she does not care.

(3,389 posts)I liked him, but he had come over from Britain about 30 years before, and would start an argument over anything. just to be arguing.
We were both members of the Utah chapter of the "Sports Car Club of America" SCCA
It didn't matter what the subject was, he always had a contrarian opinion, just for the sake of arguing.
During one of awards ceremonies for the best drivers, and most influential members of the year, he was awarded the distinct award as the "Leaky Lippy Limey" of the year. We all thought it was hilarious and stood in appreciation of his award.
Unfortunately, he had the same attitudes as TFG and didn't see the humor in it.
He's dead now, about 20+ years ago, and I miss him, but not his contrarian attitude.
I'm sure he'd have argued that the election was stolen.
RIP, Leaky Lippy Limey

(9,631 posts)Once we learned to work him, it became kinda fun. If one wanted something or a decision to go a certain way, you'd suggest the opposite and often enough you'd get what you really wanted.

(33,368 posts)...However...
I consistently favor what others oppose, and I favor what everyone else condemns.
It does involve real thought, and I realize that in a totally righteous way, though, I prevent specific people from guessing wildly on their dislikes and likes.
Even duck.
