I was sorta counting my blessings this morning---I have food, clothing and a warm dry place to sleep
---and thinking of those not similarly situated. Something my mother used to say as she struggled to make ends meet came to mind: "The Lord must love poor people---he made so many of us!"
When I count my blessings, she is at the top of the list. May we all begin to heal in 2022.

2. Your mother and mine appear to have thought alike.
My mother was a great liberal democrat who always
thought that morals should never be legislated, and that government should help the poor. |

5. Thanks, Atticus! Best wishes for 2022 to you, too! And it's always good
to count your blessings, especially at the start of the day. One of the best things you can do for yourself.

10. Thank you for that reminder
because the Colorado fire video footage this a.m. brought tears to my eyes. These tragedies occur every day, but they seem so much sadder when they occur during the holidays.

13. Thanks for the reminder.
As a society, we have too much resentment and wanting more and too little gratitude for what we have.
Happy holidays! |

14. God bless your mother. And...
I believe, as maybe you do, that it's best to literally "count" them. Not in a casual way, but in a take them out and feel them kind of way. That way, they really do count. That way they really do have a tendency to multiply.
As you say, may your blessings and indeed blessings for all the world multiply in 2022. And the best thing we can do is what you did. Count our own and then pass the practice on and share it with others. God bless. And I guess I'll dare to say it - not a "Christian" God, but just God. Because one is one, and let's not fuss over what name to call it but just appreciate the universe that gave us this life to play in. |

16. Your last paragraph brought to mind a couple more of Mom's "sayings":
"There are many roads to (my home town) and there are many paths to God by whatever name", and---my favorite---"God didn't make any junk!"
Back atcha with the blessing. |

18. Mine had a few too
One that used to drive me nuts when I was a kid but makes sense now, "God's time is not our time." (Usually said when I wanted something to happen right now.)

26. My mom, who lived through the deaths of 6 siblings from yellow fever, didn't have
a whole lot of sympathy when my brother or I complained about something 'terrible' like not getting a certain toy, or having a bad cold, etc. She said:
"You'll live!!!" |

"If I hear that, I better see blood!" I con't remember who I borrowed that from. Erma Bombeck, maybe?

25. Several years ago
I gave up on the classic New Years resolutions and resolved to do my best to do a good deed every day. Most are simle- letting a driver into the line of traffic, distracting a lively child to give Mom a break, remembering to give to those with so much less, in my case to have some cash ready for the needy person with a sign, especially as I am leaving the supermarket lot with $100. in groceries in my car.
Sometimes it is just an understanding smile. Yesterday with a few like minded customers as we organized the Dungeness Crab Line at local market. So nice- everyone was happy, even the market staff. Very simple but so nice that everyone was cooperative and happy. Happy New Year! ![]() |

32. I immediately thought of the song, "Grateful," by Amanda McBroom
I'm not sure if I can link to a YouTube version:
][link:https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=mcafee&ei=UTF-8&p=grateful+amanda+mcbroom&type=E211US0G0#id=1&vid=34c3aad1b7df4778b27adbbbe6658f75&action=click| Here's the first verse: "I‘ve got a roof over my head;
I’ve got a warm place to sleep. Some nights I lie awake counting gifts, Instead of counting sheep. I’ve got a heart that can hold love; I’ve got a mind that can think. There may be times when I lose the light, And let my spirits sink. But I can’t stay depressed, When I remember how I’m blessed! Grateful, grateful, truly grateful I am. Grateful, grateful, truly blessed and duly grateful." As an alcoholic looking forward to my 43rd sober NYE in a row, thanks for reminding me of this song, Atticus! (I believe the song is definitely worth listening to in its entirety.) |

i've got my home, my dogs, chickens and parrots.
plenty to eat. good beer. weed. my children all live, even tho several of them are assholes. i've got less money than i did when all this started, but i'm still a long way from broke. i do wish i didnt know how many of the people in my life are actually abject assholes, but hey, always good to know the truth. |

35. This topic of Blessings was a topic during the holiday party
1) if we're a bit chilly, we are able to walk a couple steps to reset the thermostat.
2) When we move, we have so much stuff to get rid of, we realize how much we're blessed. 3) We have the slightest hunger pangs and we can't decide what to eat in the fridge. 4) It's raining out but so far, no roof leaks- not even a consideration until I post this. 5) Internet is working so I connect with family and friends in an instant. Simple pleasures of life which we take for granted. |
